Otomo Temporarily Discontinued, Its Founder Now Focuses on Developing the "Adain" Services Marketplace

Already has 400 vendors, wants to reach all regions in Indonesia

The pandemic that has disrupted the growth of the startup business has also been felt by luxury vehicle rental platforms otomo. To DailySocial.id, Otomo Founder Charles Lin shared their current business strategy by delaying Otomo operations first and then focusing on developing the platform marketplace for all named services and services Adaine.

There are still not many platforms that provide service options outside professional work with specific capabilities, became the reason for Charles to develop the application. Departing from personal experience that it is difficult to find part-time workers for general work, finally decided to present a service that can be enjoyed by all.

"We want to position Adain like platforms like Carousell and OLX, everyone can search for the services they need while offering the services and services they master on one platform," said Charles.

In particular, Adain does not take commissions from partners freelancer and companies/vendors that have promoted their services and services on the platform. For companies or vendors such as cleaning service providers and others, it is easy to promote the list of services they have, as well as freelancer such as repairmen to technicians. Thus the services that are really needed and sought can be accessed through the Adain platform.

"We avoid taking commissions on our partners. Currently all vendors and freelancer can promote and get direct customers through the Adain application. In the future, we may monetize to B2B by providing relevant and needed data to support their business growth," explained Charles.

Currently Adain has around 400 vendors in several areas such as Greater Jakarta and Bandung. Most of the services or services sought by customers are technician services (television and air conditioning) and cleaning services. To make it easier for customers to access services and services, Adain is available in an application that can be downloaded on the Play Store and also on Facebook Apps Store.

Reach all regions in Indonesia

Unlike other platforms such as SeekmiClick Clean, meritorious, Cleaner most of which offer services and a selection of their partners that have been curated internally, Adain actually provides an opportunity for all freelancers to promote their services and services.

Thus, if currently Papua or other regions do not have the services that customers are looking for, freelancer so that vendors in companies located in these areas can promote their services and services directly through the Adain application.

"For vendors or companies, we entrust the curation process and KYC they have. Meanwhile, from freelancer we look at the data for verification," said Charles.

In the future Adain also has plans to launch features instant booking for services or services on-demand. To facilitate communication, the Adain application also provides internal chat/messenger that customers can take advantage of when interacting with vendors or freelancer.

Currently Charles and co-founder Other Otomo still want to develop Adain by increasing the number freelancer, vendors and customers. Next October when conditions have begun to gradually recover, Otomo is also planned to be re-launch by presenting relevant options.

"Currently our metric is more about how many users use the Adain application. For vendors, they can do the following: on-boarding On the other hand, many freelancers are also starting to join the Adain platform," said Charles.

In articleDailySocial.id As previously mentioned, although there are already several service platforms and services that provide services outside the capital area, most of them still limit services in Jakarta and its surroundings. From the investor's point of view, one of the reasons for the limited service area covered by service platforms and builders in Indonesia is the vulnerable economic unit.

According to Managing Partner Indogen Capital Chandra Firmanto, typical service marketplace services tend to be very hyperlocal and lacking scalable. They cannot take advantage of pre-existing supply and demand in one market to attract users in new markets. When they come to a new market, they need to get all the customers from scratch.

The effect is that customer acquisition in one city will be very different from other cities in Indonesia. The uncertainty of the Customer Acquisition Cost (CAC) often makes this model disadvantaged when it begins to enter new markets. Towards the end of 2020 the number of services and handyman services in Indonesia is increasing. However, no one has dominated the service yet and only a few have received fresh funds from investors.
