Ruangguru Release of Skill Academy, Learning Service to Improve Professional Skills

Startups EdTech Ruangguru released Skill Academy, which is an online learning platform that contains materials about improving professional skills. For example discussing sales strategies, tips for making presentations, to understanding investments.

Served for a fee, each content is created by experts. "We invite industry professionals to follow a multi-layered screening process to ensure the credibility of the instructors. Learning materials are developed together with the team content research & development that we have," said Skill Academy Manager Pretty Kusumaningrum.

Since its launch in early September 2019, there have been 40 mentors who have joined the Skills Academy. This number will continue to be added, along with the enthusiasm of users towards the platform. To facilitate access, the application will also be launched in the near future – currently there is only a web version.

Want to be "top of mind" study solution

Pretty tells about the background of this new product development. Ruangguru have been successful EdTech number one in Indonesia, providing learning applications for K-12 (elementary to high school level). However, it is important for high school / vocational high school graduates to continue learning to improve skills, so that they have high competitiveness when looking for or in a work environment - Skill Academy wants to play a role here.

“On the other hand, there is a market that is 3x wider in scope than the product already serves Ruangguru, namely higher education and professional workers. This is something that is also beneficial for our business, coupled with our aspiration to provide solutions related to training problems. In the end, our main goal is to become a platform top of mind who can provide solutions for all educational needs,” said Pretty.

He also conveyed the considerations that make this new product separate from the existing application ecosystem. Skill Academy target market and Ruangguru have different habits and forms of learning materials that cannot be combined. So the UI and UX of the product need to be adjusted (based on the results user testing) to make it more interesting and comfortable to learn.

Focus on the learning experience

Skill Academy was released to provide learning flexibility for adults who tend to be busy. They can learn anytime, anywhere. The quality of the material to be one of the promised.

Responding to questions with differentiation with other platforms, Pretty conveyed "An amazing learning experience. We formulate an effective digital learning method, with a combination of interactive videos, infographics, and methods assessment which can measure user progress. We've done testing number of users and get feedback satisfactory."

Besides that he also said about "best value for money", after registering and subscribing to a class, users will get lifetime access and certification for successful completion.

Besides Skill Academy, previously there were startups that offered learning platforms for professionals. Including RevoU which focuses on technology education, language who began to explore material outside of language learning, until Udemy which has officially established its presence in Indonesia.
