ngaji.ai Makes Learning to Recite the Koran Easier Thanks to AI Support

AI-based startup for language technology, Vokal.ai, introduces a Koran learning application supported by AI technology, reciting the Koran. ai. This application is able to detect the accuracy of the pronunciation of the Koran reading through technology automatic speech recognition (ASR) so that the process of learning to recite the Koran can be carried out independently.

At the inauguration in Jakarta, yesterday (5/3), Co-founder of ngaji.ai Sutarto Hadi highlighted that the number of Koran literacy in a number of regions in Indonesia is still low. This fact is ironic given the data that shows Indonesia is one of the countries with the largest Muslim majority population in the world.

In fact, in an internal survey conducted, it was concluded that 91% of Muslims believed it was important to have the ability to read the Koran. During this time, parents usually call teachers to learn the Koran or register their children at TPA/TPQ.

"Meanwhile, there is also a desire to deepen the ability to read the holy Koran in adult Muslims, but there is a feeling of shame and reluctance to learn more from teachers," said Sutarto.

ngaji.ai is able to provide feedback to help users find out whether the pronunciation is correct or not. The way to do this is by implementing a scoring system, users will get grades when completing study material and doing exercises.

There are three stages to monitor learning progress, namely beginner, intermediate and advanced, which are measured based on the total score collected. In the learning process, there are 15 materials. The most basic material is knowing the hijaiah letters and how the letters sound. Then move up to learning cursive letters.

Apart from that, there is also a leaderboard as a form of gamification which aims to increase user motivation to continue learning. All users can see their achievements and share them on social media.

For users who want to check tadarus capabilities, the ASR feature in the tadarus menu can detect the user's fluency in reciting the Koran. The exam feature can also ensure that users have mastered the material correctly or that there are still areas that can be improved. This is to ensure a good Koran learning process with measurable achievements like reciting the Koran directly with a teacher.

ngaji.ai also has a daily verse recommendation feature for studying Al-Quran verses during the month of Ramadan. Another feature on ngaji.ai is the prayer and fast breaking schedule based on location and Qibla direction. Features that will be added soon are the Hajj Manasik, hadith, and stories of the Prophet. All these features and learning processes make ngaji.ai usable by children from the age of three to adults.

Vokal.ai founder Martijn Enter said that this application had actually been developed since 2020 using technology jointly developed by experts from Indonesia and the Netherlands in the field of data collection, Koran learning materials, IT, and machine learning.

According to him, AI in the world of Indonesian education has enormous potential for progress and transformation. AI can customize the learning experience based on each learner's needs and learning style, resulting in deeper understanding and better interactions.
