Builders Want to Bridge Home Owners with Service Providers Through Technology

Focus on the West Jakarta area first, planning to launch a mobile application for the Android platform in early March 2016

Since Go-Jek launched the app mobile devices and expand services to various fields of services, services on-demand increasingly mushrooming in 2016. One of the new players is Tukang which is an application that can connect homeowners with home service providers such as air conditioning services, delivery of gallons of water, and house cleaning services. In the near future, Tukang also plans to launch an application mobile devices for platform Android.

Starting from the momentum on-demand service

Craftsman, which is under the umbrella of PT Tukang Indonesia Digital, was founded in November 2015 by Daniel Rannu in Jakarta. The birth of Tukang itself stems from Daniel's experience, who often finds it difficult to find handyman services that suit his needs and there is no solution that can facilitate this.

Even though the problems faced are real, Daniel is still not sure about the readiness of the resources and the market to accept the presence of services on-demand. However, this changed when Daniel saw that Go-Jek's services were acceptable in the community.

Daniel said, “This Go-Jek is really eye-opening, for us to be this moments of truth. We are aware that this [the difficulty of finding a handyman] can be solved.overcome. It turns out that we [the market] are ready. That's our jump. Now we are more confidence that this [on-demand service] is totally workable.”

“In its implementation, […] we see [again] what problems exist in the field. [Apparently] Those people often have difficulty in finding [services] cleaning services, AC repair, even products like Aqua Gallon. […] So we thought to be one app for all, but still limited in scope around the house. So not really broad, [and] stay focused,” he added.

Tukang has now received investment from angel investors to run operations in the early days of his presence. However, Daniel said that who and how much of the investment he received could not be disclosed due to company policy.

How the Builder app works

Basically, Tukang is an app mobile devices which connects homeowners with handyman service providers to be employed easily and safely. However, the app itself is not currently available on popular app stores. Even so, Daniel continues to explain how the Tukang application, which is planned to launch in early March 2016, works on DailySocial.

The interesting thing about how the Tukang application works is the involvement of service providers as admins of the builders who will work. So, basically there are three parties involved in the work process of the Tukang application, namely the consumer, the handyman service provider who becomes the admin, and the handyman who works. After the consumer chooses the desired service, a notification will be sent to the admin, then the admin will choose who the handyman will be sent to the consumer's location.

From the consumer side, there are four services to choose from, namely AC Service, Cleaning Services, Water & Gas, and Handyman. There is also a feature to provide reviews and ratings of the workman's performance. However, Daniel emphasized that at the launch of the application, Handyman services and AC installation are still not available. Regarding the price, Daniel said that it is currently in the range of 60-100 thousand Rupiah.

It's different with service providers who become admins. The application used by the admin has the ability to manage the artisan's resources. Through the application, admins can see who is working and who has an empty schedule. In addition, admins can also view the history of orders they have received.

While the application for handymen who work is much simpler. Builders can only receive task notifications sent by the admin, see the destination address, notify them of being and finishing work.

Daniel said, “In principle, we are can bridge. So we really are simply connecting what is already happening in the field, we made it simpler. We make it practical from two sides [consumers and service providers]. […] We [only] provide the digital bridge to make it efficient.

Focus and plans for 2016

The presence of services such as Tukang in the midst of society is actually no longer a new thing, especially when considering Go-Jek with its extensive and successful services. Daniel also does not deny the occurrence of competition in the market. However, Daniel remains optimistic that Tukang can survive in the midst of the existing friction.

“We are very concerned about the security aspect, we are really looking for our vendors. […] In the end what will differentiate [with similar services] is customer satisfaction. […] When it comes to competition, back to the question are we good enough? […] I believe we are good enough to compete with the others,” he said.

Directly, the Builder himself will be dealing with service experts and Monolia. Besides that, there are still Help and also please which is currently being cleaned up to be able to launch officially.

Currently the team of builders has a full team of four with Daniel as CEO. In 2016, apart from launching the application mobile devices which will be increased gradually, Tukang also wants to be able to expand its territory so that it can reach Jabodetabek by the end of the year.

Daniel said, “We start in West Jakarta, but at the end of 2016 I want to be able to reach Jabodetabek and all service already full function. "
