JustWatch Research: Netflix and Disney+ Become the Most Selling SVOD Platforms Throughout Q1 2023

The local SVOD platform Vidio is also among the top players, becoming the choice of Indonesian users with a percentage of 10% of the market share

The rise of Subscription Video on Demand (SVOD) services has changed consumer behavior in Indonesia. Now users can access a variety of content in various gender, allowing them to explore new shows, movies and documentaries from around the world.

Some of the major SVOD platforms operating in Indonesia are Netflix, iFlix, Disney+ Hotstar, Vidio, HBO Go, Prime Video, WeTV, and Viu. These platforms compete to capture the growing demand for SVOD content among Indonesian consumers.

Recently JustWatch, released its SVOD report for the first quarter of 2023, providing insight into the evolving streaming services. The report offers an in-depth understanding of the SVOD platform market trends, preferences and dynamics, highlighting the customs streaming viewers around the world.

Netflix and Disney+ Hotstar Rivalry

In general, the JustWatch report shows the service landscape streaming, examining the market presence, content, and user engagement of various SVOD providers. With an extensive database in over 70 countries, JustWatch analyzes data from millions of users to offer deep insight into the streaming industry.

In Indonesia itself, currently there are 7 SVOD services that are most accessed by users and are specifically observed in detail, including Netflix, Disney+Hotstar, iFlix (+WeTV), Viu, Vidio, Prime Video and HBO Go.

In the report it was revealed, market share for Indonesia in the first quarter of 2023, Netflix and Disney+hostar will still be the most SVOD platforms accessed by users in Indonesia at 22%. Followed by iFlix with 16%, Viu with 12%, local platform Vidio with 10%, then Prime Video from Amazon with 9%, and finally HBO Go with 6%.

The report also revealed that Netflix, iflix, and Viu showed positive growth with each growing up to +1%. Meanwhile Prime Video and Disney+hotstar are still struggling to keep up with the market, with their respective market shares decreasing by -1%.

Meanwhile, Netflix's strong growth rate in Japan and South Korea has resulted in high revenue per user, supported by material benefits and contributions from India, Indonesia, the Philippines and Thailand.
