Expansion to Indonesia, Progate Offers Online Services to Learn Programming

Become the second edutech startup to officially launch its presence in the Indonesian market in the first half of 2020

Aims to improve digital capabilities, Progate platform online learn programming officially launched in Indonesia. Founded in Japan in 2014, they offer a premium, subscription-based learning channel. Learning materials cover various topics such as HTML & CSS, Javascript, SQL, React, NodeJS and others which are updated regularly.

To DailySocial Country Manager for Progate Indonesia, Norman Ganto, said that his service is here to help Indonesia solve challenges digital talent gap, it is estimated that in the next few years 9 million digital talents are needed here.

"We are here to collaborate with various communities, institutions, companies, and provide alternatives for Indonesians to learn coding with fun independently and at very affordable prices, especially at times like this (the appeal at home due to the pandemic)."

Progate has two types of packages, namely the basic package and the plus package. Basic package in free version, user can complete 1 lesson of each programming language, in 1 lesson there is a lot of theory and practice material. If the user wants to continue to the next lesson, they can upgrade to a subscription option. Currently the platform is equipped with an Indonesian language option.

"Enjoyable experiences were the focus of designing and developing Progate. One of the unique selling proposition-The problem is that users don't have to setup or install anything to be able to start practicing theory coding what he just learned at Progate," said Norman.

In Indonesia itself, there are now several online platforms targeting similar materials, ranging from premium to free. For example the CodeMy portal which has been released since 2017, or Kode.id which was developed by the Hacktiv8 programming course institute.

Sector edutech seems to have a good future in Indonesia, one of which is marked by investor confidence to fund businesses in the vertical. Last year startup centaurRuangguru managed to book series C funding worth 1,2 trillion Rupiah. Other startups, namely Zenius and HarukaEdu, also managed to book further funding.

The market's openness to digital learning platforms is also the reason why some players are steadily expanding into Indonesia. Besides Progate, earlier this year there was also Elsa Speak, developed application founder from Silicon Valley to help students maximize their abilities speaking English.

Establish strategic cooperation

To accelerate business growth and introduce to target users, Progate has established strategic partnerships. Among them with digital talent recruitment startup Geekhunter and Glints. They have also collaborated with the Ministry of Communication and Information, through the Digital Talent Scholarship program.
