Pockets Series A Funding, MD Bot Ready to Launch in Indonesia Q2 2021

Develop a chatbot platform to support health services

Singapore-based startups MD . bots has secured a series A funding of $5 million. The focus of their services in the health sector, presenting -based applications chatbot equipped with Natural Language Processing (NLP) technology. Post-funding, the company plans to expand to other countries such as the Philippines, Malaysia, India, and Indonesia.

To DailySocial, MD Bot Co-Founder & CEO Dorothea Koh said the platform they developed was focused on providing user experiences that modernize clinical workflows, without the need to adopt an entirely new hospital system or change existing workflows.

"MD AI bots chatbot made with self-developed NLP technology. We have trained AI to understand various medical terminology and are also able to understand various types of hospital content, so that it can provide answers quickly," said Dorothea.

Given the huge demand from major hospitals and healthcare organizations during the pandemic, this fresh fund will also help accelerate the company's growth in Asia Pacific through partnerships with hospitals, public and private clinics.

This funding round was led by Monk's Hill Ventures. New and previous investors involved in the investment round included SeaX, XA Network, and SGInnovate, as well as healthcare industry veterans Yoh-Chie Lu and Jean-Luc Butel, and Steve Blank.

"Unlike other SaaS enterprise players, the team's extensive experience in the healthcare industry has given them deeper insight into real pain points from doctors and hospitals, allowing them to create highly intuitive products for physicians to use without any training required," said Monk's Hill Ventures Partner Michele Daoud.

In Indonesia alone platform chatbot quite a lot developed local startups. For those who focus on health, there are already several players, two of them Prixa which is a business unit of Kata.ai and DokterSiaga.

Target Indonesian market

By putting forward AI technology, currently Bot MD has been trained by more than 13 doctors who have used the platform. Chat engine (chat engine) it can also be used to support platforms chat/messaging apps for consumers such as WhatsApp, to help doctors provide care to patients.

As one of the countries that has a large population and number of users chat/messagingapp in Southeast Asia, Indonesia then became an ideal country for Bot MD to explore. Based on the plan, the company will start launching in Indonesia around the second quarter of this year.

Currently Bot MD is still in the process of teaching muzzle to understand Indonesian. In addition, local team recruitment starts from engineer, clinical pharmacists, nurses and also the sales team who will be stationed in Jakarta are also still being carried out.

When asked what products or services are relevant and needed by the market in Indonesia, Dorothea emphasized that they have two main products that are claimed to be very suitable for Indonesia. The first is the MD Hospital Bot which is used by doctors and clinical staff to search for hospital-specific content. This ranges from their hospital call list schedules, to drug information and clinical guidelines, patient health reports and scans, prescribing medications, ordering and scheduling Radiology and Lab examinations.

Another product that will be launched in Indonesia is the MD Care Bot, which is a WhatsApp-based clinical monitoring platform for doctors to monitor patients with diabetes, hypertension, and chronic kidney disease.

"We believe Bot MD Hospital and Bot MD Care are very relevant to the Indonesian market because the number of patients is quite large and the ratio of doctors to patients is low, so your doctor is a very busy person. In addition, the prevalence of chronic diseases such as diabetes and hypertension in the population Indonesia is growing. With Bot MD, doctors can help streamline clinical workflows and seek information so they can save time and focus on better serving patients," said Dorothea.
