Lionsgate Play will Launch in Indonesia in Q1 2021

Launched in India, Indonesia is the first Southeast Asian country to have Lionsgate Play

Having already been present in India, LionsgatePlay which is a platform video on-demand owned by a major studio from the United States, The Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, is scheduled to be present in Indonesia in the first quarter of 2021.

To DailySocial. Guntur S. Siboro, who currently serves as Lionsgate Play's representative in Indonesia, conveyed the news. A similar concept was previously carried out by Disney + Hotstar the middle of 2020.

"Indonesia will later become the first country in Southeast Asia to be chosen by Lionsgate Play. The Indian and Indonesian markets are fairly similar, this is what makes Lionsgate Play launch in Indonesia after India," said Guntur.

Outside of Asia, Lionsgate Play is known as STARZ PLAY, as well as in the United States of America, the name Lionsgate Play was chosen for a country in Asia, because the Star name was previously owned by a well-known company in Asia which is also a leading media company.

"However, the difference in names does not change the content we present in Asia and other countries. Lionsgate is not a big studio like Disney for example, but we have a variety of Hollywood films, TV series, to indie films that have the best quality," said Guntur

Lionsgate Play prices and content

Mentioned such as the payment options that will be determined by Lionsgate Play in Indonesia, Guntur is reluctant to reveal further. However, Guntur does not rule out the possibility that affordable and relevant prices will be provided to target customers in Indonesia.

Will Lionsgate Play collaborate with local telecommunication operators like Disney+ Hotstar and Telkomsel, not mentioned further. What is certain is that Guntur emphasized that although the competition is getting fiercer, with the available content choices, it can be an option for customers in Indonesia.

"I see that if Lionsgate Play is present in Indonesia, it will not immediately shut down Disney+ Hostar, HBO Go, Netflix, and Amazon which were previously present in Indonesia. Each of them has unique content with loyal customers that is only owned by each platform," said Thunder.

"When I was at Hooq I saw the steps taken by the big studio to stop licensing and launch its own OTT service, a trend that has proven successful and will be seen more and more in the future," said Guntur.
