Bell Society, CarbonEthics, and Surplus Selected to Join the 2022 JICA NINJA Accelerator Program

Accelerator program JICA NINJAS 2022 partner with WIND has selected 3 impactful startups from Indonesia that are eligible to take part in the acceleration program. The three startups are Bell Society, CarbonEthics, and Surplus. They managed to qualify after going through a curation process, a total of 200 registered startups.

Aiming to improve the impactful entrepreneurial ecosystem in Indonesia, this accelerated program initiated by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) carries out a selective and strict selection process. They want to support and equip influential Indonesian startups to tackle a curated list of investors, expand partnership opportunities and gain financial backing.

Furthermore, the three startups will receive the session mentoring starting in November 2022 and attending Demo Day for local, regional and Japanese investors in February 2023 in Jakarta and Japan. These selected startups can later contribute to waste management and low carbon emission areas.

Impact startups

One thing the three selected startups have in common is their focus on impact. Impact startup categories are starting to emerge a lot now, start climatetech, waste management, renewable energy, to energy efficiency.

CarbonEthics for example, supporting institutions and individuals in climate action through carbon accounting and carbon sequestration through community-based mangrove conservation. CarbonEthics plans to enter the global carbon credits market by providing verified carbon projects and expanding their scope from only blue carbon ecosystems to broader nature-based climate solutions.

While Bell Society developing and producing biomaterial skins by converting waste coffee husks, husks, and coffee grounds. Leather is used as a material for bags, shoes, wallers. The Bell Society sources its coffee and organic waste from cafes, restaurants and directly from coffee farmer cooperatives. Their growth plans will include global scale and distribution to become a global brand and have worldwide collaborations in the next 2 years.

Another startup that focuses on food waste management is Surplus. It is noted that currently Surplus has experienced positive growth as a company food waste prevention app. The year 2022 is a special momentum for companies to move forward, presenting relevant services and products to target users. At the same time helping more related industries to reduce their rate of food waste.

Surplus already has around 100k app downloads and 2k app downloads merchant more spread across 11 cities such as Greater Jakarta, Bandung, Yogjakarta, Solo, Malang, Surabaya, to Bali. If previously they were the ones picking up the ball, now with word of mouth among partners, many partners have started offering themselves directly to join the Surplus ecosystem.
