[Where Are They Now] How Are These Five Startup Activists

Starting from Razi Talib, Daniel Tumiwa, Alex Rusli, Dayu Dara Permata to Brata Rafly

In the last five years, many changes have occurred in the Indonesian startup world. Mergers and acquisitions, business pivots, leadership changes, and startup closures characterize this dynamic.

Some people who became leaders somewhere then decided to step down and set up a new startup. The following is a summary of the latest information on several startup activists who remain active in this ecosystem.

Razi Talib

Under the banner of PT Cinta Sukses Makmur, Setipe was founded by Razi Thalib at the end of 2013. In 2017 Setipe announced that it had joined Lunch Actually Group Singapore. Setipe became a business unit under the management of Lunch Actually Group and Razi led the operations of Lunch Actually Group in Indonesia.

After some time managing Lunch Actually, Razi then joined to establish RevoU. RevoU is an online education platform that encourages individuals to acquire the skills needed to launch a successful career in technology.

"I have always been passionate about education. In the past, he was involved in helping to develop Indonesia Teaching. After exit from Setipe/Lunch Actually at the beginning of last year, while doing consulting at the same time looking for next thing I wanted to focus on, happened to be invited to meet with Matteo [a former colleague of Zalora] and chat about the RevoU idea. The rest is history," said Razi to DailySocial.

Razi added that when she worked at Zalora, she first saw the difficulty of finding talent in technology. Especially in areas that Razi personally controls, namely Product and Marketing, startups mostly have to recruit bright young people to be given training.

"After I checked the progress of those who used to join my team, I'm happy very see they've become some of the leading digital marketing professionals in the region. That experience inspires how we teach at RevoU and also our expectations of graduates when they get into the workforce, said Razi.

Daniel Tumiwa

This figure has been in the startup industry for a long time. Apart from being an e-commerce startup, Daniel Tumiwa is also active in the Indonesian E-Commerce Association (idEA) as its first Chairman. In 2017 Daniel announced his retirement as CEO of OLX Indonesia.

After leaving OLX, Daniel has been busy with an adtech startup called advocate. Daniel was inspired to develop and empower traditional mediums by utilizing technology. After running for 11 months, this startup is no longer continued.

Currently Daniel is in charge of the e-learning platform Udemy for Government. The edtech marketplace from the United States Udemy inaugurated its presence in Indonesia in early 2019. Udemy contains educational content that leads to professional career development and personal enrichment.

Alex Rush

Alex Rusli's name was known when he served as President Director and CEO of Indosat Ooredoo. Many technological innovations were born when he led Indosat, but eventually most of these services were closed and Indosat refocused as an operator.

In 2017 Alex resigned from his position. He was then busy with new activities, including the Chairman of iflix Indonesia and the Co-founder and Director Bios Digiasia, a holding startup he founded. Alex was also involved as a commissioner in three companies (Hermina, Linknet, Unilever) and became angel investors in several companies.

Dayu Dara Gem

We know Dayu Dara Permata when she initiated the birth of GoLife. This service colored product diversification Gojek, but unfortunately it had to be closed this year along with the dimming of business effectiveness since the end of last year.

Escape from Gojek, Dayu is developing a new startup targeting the property sector (proptech). With Ahmed Aljunied, pinhome was established to facilitate property transactions to make it easier, faster, and transparent with the help of technology. To DailySocial Dayu claims Pinhome is not a property house or marketplace.

"Pinhome is very different. We are an online platform that facilitates interaction between property owners, buyers, and agents. As a property owner, it will be very easy because in the future we will have access to hundreds of thousands of agents who are ready to help market their properties."

Brata Rafly

Brata Rafly has been in the Indonesian technology world for a long time, including working at Microsoft, Yahoo and Intel. In 2015 Brata officially served as CEO of Dimo. Dimo is engaged in QR code-based payment system services with the jargon of Pay by QR.

Apart from Dimo, Brata then served as CEO of Finfleet. finfleet is a pivotal form of Etobee, a logistics marketplace startup.

Finfleet positioned itself as a startup engaged in logistics with special services for financial services, with a B2B2C business model. The types of services range from consumer verification, delivery of financial products such as debit and credit cards, payments and pick ups (documents, COD, mobile ATM) and consumer acquisition (selling financial products).
