Technological developments give rise to a number of new phenomena, ranging from changes in consumer behavior, business models, to how products and services are marketed.

The things above also trigger a new term, namely gig economy, which refers to a shifting trend in which companies prefer to hire freelancers over permanent workers.

For more, check out the interesting discussion from the Co-founder and CEO Job2Go Kurniawan Santoso in the following #TuesdayStartup session.

Creating new opportunities in the era gig economy

Without us realizing it, we actually live in an era gig economy. The picture, transportation services, food and beverages, travel tickets, to shopping that we have ordered through the application is a sign that technology has become part of everyday life.

By understanding gig economyKurniawan sees the company's demand for hiring freelancers getting bigger, which is also followed by the high trend of current workers due to technological developments.

"In fact, this phenomenon can give birth to new businesses that have never been thought of before," he said.

Kurniawan gave an example of how he developed a job search platform on-demand through the name Job2Go. This kind of platform can connect companies with job seekers. What's more, this platform can improve the quality of life of the workers.

On the other hand, job search platforms on-demand can overcome one of the biggest problems in Indonesia, namely the difficulty of finding work which causes the unemployment rate to remain high.

According to his calculations, there are 100,4 million people in Indonesia who have wages or salaries below the minimum standard. This number can be a good opportunity to give birth to a new business.

Work on-demand so the future of millennials

Quoting former Manpower Minister Muhammad Hanif Dhakiri, Kurniawan said that the future of millennial workers is "working without jobs".

Work on-demand will be much sought after as the current trend of workers develops. In terms of workers, said Kurniawan, as many as 60 percent like flexible work and 43 percent look for varied jobs.

Meanwhile, from the company side, as much as 40 percent are trying to increase employee satisfaction and productivity and as much as 37 percent are targeting workers ..

"Worker part time it has now become something important for the company because save money and efficient. On the other hand, flexibility and the desire to make extra money are now important choices for some people,” he said.

According to him, for developed countries, the trend gig economy very developed because the people need additional income. This is the common thread of gig economy with increasing work on-demand.

Technology is key

Technology continues to play an important role on the platform gig economy. In connecting companies with job seekers, technology is needed to minimize gap antara supply and demands.

Job2Go relies on Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology to bring companies together with job seekers.

"data intelligence can help present the right job. The process is fast and accurate, for both the seeker and the employer. The most important thing is that technology makes accuracy even better,” he explained.
