Cakap Collaborates with Telkomcel to Improve the Quality of Human Resources in Timor Leste

This will be Cakap's first overseas expansion in 2023

The Cakap edtech platform collaborates with PT Telkom Indonesia Internasional (Telin) through Telkomcel to improve the quality of Human Resources (HR). Telkomcel is a telecommunications operator operating in Timor Leste.

Cakap Co-Founder & CEO Tomy Yunus said, "This collaboration is the first overseas expansion step in 2023. Cakap will try to present content that is relevant to the needs of the market in Timor-Leste."

Currently, the program that will be served by teachers/experts from Cakap includes foreign language skills and technical skills. However, it is possible that there will be scope others as the program progresses. Some of the programs offered include Portuguese foreign languages, financial literacy, digital marketing strategies, and customer service.

Telkomcel CEO Benedictus Ardiyanto Priyo revealed that this collaboration aims to answer the current market challenges for quality human resources. His party feels the need to take part in increasing language literacy, both internally, business partners, and the people of Timor-Leste as a whole.

For the last ten years, Telkomcel has strived to contribute to nation building through capacity building through scholarship programs for local talents, certification, to domestic and foreign training. "We cannot answer the existing challenges alone, especially in capacity building, solving business problems, to consumers," he said.

Talking about employment absorption, this is also one of the fundamental issues in Indonesia. From the side supply, the number of workers reaches thousands to millions of graduates produced by vocational schools or tertiary institutions each year. Demand from the industry is also quite large. However, many industry players find it difficult to find qualified talent.

In vitro and animal studies JP Morgan and Singapore Management University found that one of the reasons for the low number of qualified workers in Indonesia is due to the gap between the academic world and industry. According to data, the situation has been exacerbated by the pandemic whose consequences have been felt by more than 29 million workers in Indonesia Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS).

Proficiency Development

Founded in 2014, Cakap has grown to become one of the largest edtech platforms in Indonesia that develops online learning applications with two-way interactions between students and teachers via video calls and text conversations. This concept enables a two-way learning interaction for learning life skills throughout Asia Pacific.
