Those Who Pioneered Monetization Platforms for Creators

Adopting the concept of Patreon KaryaKarsa, SocioBuzz Tribe, and Trakteer want to help creators live from their work

Not a few startups in Indonesia are oriented to startups that are quite successful in America. The concept was then brought into the Indonesian market of course with the existing adjustments. KaryaKarsa, Trakteer, and SociaBuzz Tribe, are some of them. All three took a similar concept to the Patreon to be brought to the Indonesian market.

Out there Patreon is well-known as one of the platforms that accommodates creators to work. The solution provided is in the form of a platform that can directly connect creators with fans, thus creators can create exclusive content for their fans, of course there are transactions in it.

In Indonesia KaryaKarsa, Trakteer, and SocialBuzz Tribe replicate it. The creators or art workers can earn from the work they create. Given that in Indonesia the number of piracy and claims of other people's work (can be called content theft) is still high, these three can be alternative solutions.

It's just that there are some things that are a challenge. The climate of support in Indonesia and the habit of paying to enjoy works is still relatively small. There are still many who prefer to enjoy the work for free, even though it is illegal. However, it is possible for the three platforms above to become big in Indonesia. There is potential for the three of them to take on the role of a bridge to legally enjoy their work.

The struggle is still in its early stages

KaryaKarsa was introduced in October last year. The startup, led by Ario Tamat, is said to have had 1000 creators who have gone through the curation process. At the beginning of its emergence, KaryaKarsa started with para comic artist/illustrator.

"In early 2020 we have managed to reach Rp 100 million in total income collected on behalf of creators, which we usually distribute to creators such as paydays through #gajiandiKaryaKarsa," explained Ario.

Almost at the same time, Miftah Mizwar, Rizki Lizuardi, and Budi Satria Wijaya started introducing Trakteer. Released on August 17, 2019 party Tractor claims to have 3000 creators and 17.000 supporters.

"In 2020, apart from our focus on being able to collaborate with content creators in Indonesia, we are also trying to continue to develop this platform towards the final version and application development. phones. So that later it can really make it easier for creators to make works, also friendly to supporter to support and enjoy content on Trakteer," explained Miftah.

Slightly different, SociaBuzz Tribe is not a dedicated platform for supporting works, but is a feature that is incorporated into the SociaBuzz platform, a marketplace creative services and influence marketing.

Under the leadership of Rade Tampubolon, SociaBuzz currently has 39.000 talents and content creators. The SocioBuzz Tribe feature itself has been included in the development roadmap since 2017. Until finally introduced this year.

At the moment everything is still in the early stages. There is still work to be done while proving that the systems and business models are working well.

Helping creators make a living from their work

Replicating the Patreon concept to be brought to Indonesia certainly has risks, one of which is the Indonesian market which is quite different. Ensuring that the creators who join get income and invite the audience to join is one of them.

For Ario, the biggest challenge he faced KaryaKarsa is for creators to earn a sustainable income and for fans to get the work they want. Now KaryaKarsa is also exploring cooperation with groups or organizations that have mass.

"The number of our creators getting support is getting higher, but the homework is how other creators can also find the right formula between creators and art lovers so that creators can earn and work lovers get the work they want on an ongoing basis. Are people willing to pay? "Content is no longer a question, but how can we empower creators to 'live from work'," explained Ario. .

Miftah said the same thing. According to him, now the Indonesian people are getting used to the digital world. Payment problems also began to disappear gradually with the presence of a variety of electronic money options. This is one important thing that could be the beginning of the development of services like Trakteer.

"The main thing is hell the need and ease of transactions help this business model to be accepted in society. We think that there are already similar business models that are starting to be used and accepted in the community, such as subscriptions/tips on comics applications, streaming, to content in written form. The homework is about how we educate users to understand the systems and services offered," Miftah continued.
