Gojek Invest in LinkAja

Follow Grab who was the first to lead the series B round in the "sponsored digital wallet" service

LinkAja announced the acquisition of a strategic investment from Gojek with an anonymous name. Gojek join in raising funds through the issuance of series B preferred stock. As previously mentioned, through this round the company will pocket a total investment commitment of more than $ 100 million (more than Rp. 1,4 trillion).

This news confirms the first time either Grab and Gojek invest in the same company, incidentally is part of a state-owned company.

LinkAja CEO Haryati Lawidjaja said he was happy to join Gojek as a shareholder in LinkAja. “Join it Gojek as a strategic shareholder, will provide LinkAja access to the ecosystem Gojek to be able to support LinkAja's mission in accelerating financial inclusion in Indonesia," he said in an official statement, Tuesday (9/3).

Co-CEO Gojek Andre Soelistyo added, "Our mission is to increase financial inclusion by providing the widest possible access to financial services to the public unbanked and underbanked in line with LinkAja's commitment [...] This collaboration provides an opportunity to combine the technological strengths and broad reach of each company.”

As part of the partnership, LinkAja will expand payment method options for certain services in the application Gojek. Previously, LinkAja could be used to pay for transportation services and ticket reservations. Thus, users and business people can have more choices when making transactions, while providing added value for millions of people who use the service. Gojek and LinkAja.

The two companies will complement each other. LinkAja focuses on payments for retail purchases, public services and daily needs services with 80% of its users coming from second and third tier cities. Temporary Gojek through GoPay, serving the needs of the retail and business sector, especially MSMEs, as well as services for daily needs on the platform Gojek.

Previously, on November 10 2020, LinkAja announced the acquisition of series B funding led by Grab. Followed by the ranks of previous investors, namely Telkomsel, BRI Ventures, and Mandiri Capital. It is not stated how much LinkAja's current valuation is. This funding is the first for LinkAja from a company outside of SOEs.

LinkAja itself is increasingly focused on enriching features from collaboration with its investors. The newest one is with Pawnshop to provide financial services such as Gold Savings for new openings and top up balance, Micro Installment, Redeem Pawn, and Re-Pawn.
