The term description may already be familiar. This type of descriptive text is found everywhere. Articles contain many types of text. Basically, a description describes something. 

But what about writing them? What makes it different from other types of text? Explanation of descriptive text will be explained further below along with examples.

Definition of Description Text

So, of course, before going to the example of descriptive text, you must first know what the text means. Descriptive text is writing that describes an object based on the author's observations, feelings, and experiences.

This text usually contains sentences that describe an object (object or living thing) and gives the reader the impression that he saw, heard, and felt that object. To do this, the writer must use good words and language to describe the topic in detail.

Description Text Features

Descriptive text has different characteristics from other texts. The following are the characteristics of descriptive text in general:

  • Describe or explain something

  • Trying to bring the scene or event of the text closer to the readers and listeners
  • Involve the five senses to make the reader understand
  • The sentence according to focuses on one thing according to the explanation

Description Text Structure

  • Title

The title in the description paragraph must contain at least three aspects, namely relevant, provocative or interesting and also short. The essay title presents the story, which is an implicit summary of the entire essay. This title has appeal and is promotional.

  • Identification

Identify people, objects, and other objects.

  • Classification

Components that have a system in accordance with predetermined rules and standards.

  • Information

Contains a description or explanation of the object or problem discussed in the text.

  • Conclusion

Conclusion is an affirmation of things that are considered important. Conclusions can be included or not included.

Types of Description Text

Subjective Description 

Subjective description is a description that describes an item based on the author's impression.

Spatial Description

Spatial description text is a descriptive text that only describes objects such as places, rooms, and objects.

Objective Description

Objective description text is an explanatory text that describes an object in the context of an actual situation, allowing the reader to imagine the situation from the author's point of view.

Imaginary Description

Imaginary Description Text is a text that contains a description or description of where an event takes place. The description must be viewed from different angles so that the place is clearly imagined for both the imagination and the emotions of the reader.

Item Description

is a descriptive text that describes objects openly to reveal their identity as they are so that the reader can imagine the actual situation.
