Entering Indonesia, Logistics Startup Janio Opens Opportunities for Cross-Country E-commerce Product Delivery

Sign a partnership with idEA for more cross-border transactions through the e-commerce platform

Logistics digitization comprehensive not only from first or last mile only, but also regarding how cross-border transactions can be fulfilled. This solution has not caught the attention of startup players because there are many regulations that must be met.

The realm is usually played by players incumbent such as DHL and FedEx. Both of these companies rely more on the strength of heavy assets and large amounts of human resources. As a result, shipping costs are expensive, while consumers have no alternative choice.

This opportunity is wanted to be worked on by a logistics startup from Singapore, Janio. The startup adopts a light asset approach with technology to integrate the ecosystem with logistics players in various supply chains, rather than adding more heavy assets.

To DailySocial, Co-Founder & COO Janio Syed Ali Ridha Madihid explained, his business is optimizing the existing capacity in the market rather than competing directly with old players. It cooperates with many logistics companies that are experts in various international shipping processes, so that it operates as a regional cross-border network.

"We believe that technology-centric collaboration is the key to creating win-win situations and values," he said.

Janio combines tracking real-time, structured analysis, and delivery-specific communications to help make package delivery simpler, yet accurate in a centralized platform.

Inside the platform, it contains information when goods enter the warehouse, delivery first mile, customs processing at the origin and destination airports, distribution, to delivery last mile. This service can be used for SME and corporate businesses that are starting to expand their business internationally.

Janio's first partner for local corporations is Bukalapak in BukaGlobal services. Janio provides delivery and education solutions for merchant Bukalapak who wants to deepen their understanding of the international market.

"Currently we support OpenGlobal with export shipments in five routes, namely from Indonesia to Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam, Hong Kong, and Taiwan."

Meanwhile, Janio itself provides delivery to 12 countries, from Southeast Asia, to South Korea, Japan, Australia, and China.

Partner with idEA

In early December 2019, Janio entered into a partnership with the Indonesian E-commerce Association (idEA) to help local players enter the international market. Ali explained, in this partnership Janio became expertise in their field hold various workshops and joint events to provide insight so that they can successfully develop their business.

It is aware that delivery E-commerce cross-border is more complex than domestic, therefore it requires assistance from key ecosystem interests such as idEA and expertise from the private sector to address these issues.

"We hope to be able to help businesses more E-commerce Indonesia by overcoming all the problems they may face in overseas expansion."

Beyond that, Janio's commitment to the development of its ecosystem is to provide international import volumes for Indonesian logistics players. Partners can leverage Janio's regional network to provide a greater range of services to their own clients.

He gave an example, local Indonesian fleet operators who specialize in shipping in Tangerang only, are now not only able to receive more business through shipments coming from outside Indonesia via the Janio network. Also, take advantage of the Janio network and provide international shipping to their customers in Tangerang.

"This allows them to add value [to users] in more ways."

According to him, Indonesia has great export opportunities, but the challenges in building ecosystems locally are no less big. The reason is, to strengthen international supply chains, domestic ecosystems must be strong and reliable.

"Our focus is on ensuring better accessibility and quality of our solutions to meet this growth," said Ali.

Here, Janio already has a local team and an office in Jakarta was formed in mid-2019. Janio himself has opened offices in Hong Kong and Malaysia.

The company is included in one of the Insignia Ventures portfolios, along with other logistics startups, such as Shipper and Logivan from Vietnam.
