Receive Funding, Cinepoint Cinema Film Rating Application Soon Expands to OTT Platform

Has 40 thousand users since its release last year

Rating app and box office cinemas Cinepoint announces the acquisition of an undisclosed amount of early stage funding from Ideosource Entertainment. The fresh funds are used to develop features that directly help the Indonesian film industry, can be integrated with other platforms, and expand ratings for content on the OTT platform.

Ideosource Entertainment previously also invested in funding for GoPlay, a proprietary OTT platform Gojek. Both Cinepoint and GoPlay is a form of commitment from Ideosource to build a better film ecosystem in Indonesia.

Cinepoint is a rating app and box office which aired in Indonesian cinemas, both locally and internationally. Rating is measured through exit poll which is filled in by the viewer after watching and verified real-time. Date box office always updated regularly, equipped with weekly charts as well as historical data and infographics.

In fact, this application has been around since last year under the developer Inspira PRJ. The figure behind the Cinepoint application is a Twitter account @talkboxoffice which often provides information on the number of moviegoers currently showing in theaters.

To DailySocial, Director of Cinepoint Sigit Prabowo explained, Cinepoint is different from other services that are more inclined towards review film. Cinepoint positions itself as a rating film based on numbers, without review. Numbers are more absolute and truly describe the assessment of the audience.

According to him, this method is familiar in developed countries such as the United States. However, the assessment is taken manually through a piece of paper filled in by the audience after leaving the cinema. Cinepoint digitized the process to be brought into Indonesia.

“With digital, the industry can get a much broader picture, the distribution of the audience, can predict tastes based on location, and so on. We are like big data analytics but specifically for films," he said, Thursday (25/6).

To provide a rating, users will be asked to enter the location of the cinema along with scan ticket. Then enter the name of the movie being watched, the hour, and the seat number of the cinema. Viewers can rate the film on a scale of 1-10.

It should be noted, giving this rating is recommended after watching or not far from the cinema location. Each rating given, the user will get points.

Sigit's interest in the world of film and analytics finally inspired him to develop Cinepoint to be more serious and structured in order to have a positive impact on the film industry. Since it was first released until now, he said Cinepoint has pocketed 40 thousand users.

One of the features that will be developed is the rating for films that appear on the OTT platform. Sigit said, the pandemic made the consumption of film content on the OTT platform accelerate, eventually prompting the team to develop the feature.

Funding from Ideosource
