Monika Rudijono Builds Career: Wants to Be a "Role Model" for Beloved Daughter

A dynamic career journey has brought Monika Rudijono known in the startup community and tech scene Indonesia. Starting as an Account Executive at a company advertising agency, now he occupies the prestigious position as Managing Director on the largest local OTT platform in Indonesia, Vidio.

As a housewife, it is claimed that her work experience and busy schedule do not interfere with her daily routine. Together with Vidio, Monika wants to give the best contribution by empowering team to be better.

To DailySocial, Monika tells the ups and downs of her career journey and the hopes she wants to convey to the younger generation of women and of course her beloved children.

Learned a lot from agency

For 20 years Monika worked at advertising agency famous. Dynamics agency who tend to fast paced and full of rapid change, providing positive habits. He explained that in order to meet clients' needs and requests, he had to be able to adapt and work with a large team. The creative, production and other teams have goal the same, namely providing services and advise relevant to brand who are clients.

"So, without realizing it, in those 20 years, I also understood the characters of different people better, because there weren't any agencies at the agency output the products we provide, but more about strategy and creativity and ideas. When working with many people, I see talent is the biggest asset," said Monika.

According to Monika, this habit has enabled her to think quickly and make the best decisions in a short period of time. Work under pressure and multitasking is a skill set learned while at agency.

Escape from agency, Monika decided to take the opportunity to work at Uber. Even though it was only 7 months, he claims to have learned a lot when he joined this technology company from the United States.

Uber's presence in Indonesia has disrupted transportation services in Indonesia, although ultimately the company must synergize with Grab in South East Asia. Even though he admitted that he had a lot of responsibilities and work as President of Uber for Indonesia, thanks to his experience working at agency he didn't feel surprised.

"Likewise, when I finally decided to take the position as CMO at Lazada. I always believe that building teams and individuals is important. My experience working at agency has also educated me to be able to manage expectations. "For me, what I have done in the past has led to my current position," said Monika.

There are several reasons why Monika finally decided to join Vidio. Apart from the huge possibility of contributing as a multinational company owned by Emtek, Monika sees enormous potential in this platform. Even though she admits that she is still learning the ins and outs of the OTT world, with her experience in a career at a previous company, Monika is confident that she can give her best.

"As Managing Director, my job is more to observe from an angle helicopterview. By giving improvement "On a small scale, it can continue to grow big and of course provide positive results," said Monika.

He is quite confident that in the short term he can provide strategy and direction in marketing activities. However, on a larger scale, Monika also wants to be more involved peopledevelopment. He believes the right talent can make the company even bigger.

"In terms of innovation, you can be sure that Vidio will continue to grow originalseries-his. Likewise with sports and Fantasy Team content. We know exactly what the preferences of users in Indonesia are. "We have also launched a soap opera in several episodes which can only be enjoyed on the Vidio platform," said Monika.

The dream of building a country

For Monika, her career must be valuable and have value. Is it in terms of appropriate remuneration or knowledge/insight that can be obtained from the company. Also how to contribute and impact to the company.

"When I studied abroad, I had the dream of returning to Indonesia and developing the country. Now, when I have 4 daughters, I hope that what I do can become role model for them and prove anything is possible," said Monika.

One of Monika's strengths is the support given by her beloved father and husband. These two figures give a sense of self-confidence and confidence to be able to pursue a career to date. This is what becomes a guide when gaining responsibility in various companies.

Even so, she realizes that not all Indonesian women can have the freedom and opportunity to broaden their horizons and build a career like her.

"Since a long time ago, my father always said that whatever I do should never be an obstacle just because I am a woman. Whatever I want to do, if I focus, I will definitely achieve it. This then became my motivation in my career," said Monika.

It cannot be denied that the world of technology and the startup community is currently still dominated by male leaders. Monika never saw this as a challenge.

"Until now, there are still many young women who ask me how I am able to balance my career with the household. This means that up to now there is still pressure among women to obey the requests of their husbands, parents and other people closest to them. I am lucky enough to be surrounded by support system who supported me all this time," said Monika.
