Grab and Sinar Mas Land Testing Electric Scooters GrabWheels in BSD City

Will be rolled out to office complexes, stations, campuses, to tourist attractions

Grab and Sinar Mas Land released an electric scooter trial project GrabWheels in several locations in BSD City. This is the first project to follow up the strategic cooperation between both companies since the MoU in March 2019.

Executive Director Grab Indonesia Ongki Kurniawan explained, there are five parking points with 50 units of scooters available at this location. User can try GrabWheels for free during the trial period until the middle of this year for 30 minutes.

During this period, the company will collect user habits data which will be used for better planning. For example, laying out increased or expanded parking locations, determining tariffs, and finding new locations for the next implementation.

"Last Monday (6/5) we actually had soft launch and enthusiasm is quite good. We get hundreds of users every day," said Ongki, Thursday (9/5).

Locations expected to be suitable for deployment GrabThese Wheels, he continued, are like stations with a high level of density and are close to offices, large enough tourist objects, residences, campuses, or townships which are also considered attractive.

"There are also several Mas Land rays Township others, besides BSD City. We will monitor the development there. In this tourism object there is actually a need for mobility, with GrabWheels are becoming entertainment. Someone already asked us."

After GrabWheels, both companies will continue implementation next for the launch of the Innovation Lab, the development of other solutions in the field of connectivity and mobility.

How to use GrabWheels

To use this electric scooter, users need to download an application GrabWheels beta version via iOS and Android devices. After that visit the parking area GrabWheels that are available at selected locations in BSD City.

Users can unlock the electric scooter by simply scanning the available barcode using the app before starting the journey. Once the user arrives at the intended location, the application will direct the user to return the electric scooter to the nearest parking lot.

Ongki opens up the possibility of expanding parking points with third parties, such as minimarket. Later the company will structure the right business model for them.

"The parking lot is actually open to third parties. As in Singapore, we are working with minimarket as a parking point GrabWheels."

In the third quarter of this year, GrabWheels is immediately available on the app Grab in the form of tile so users do not need to download additional applications.

In order to maintain user safety, the company provides education on safe driving behavior via direct messages in the application GrabWheels. Users are required to wear a helmet as a complete driving.

The scooter is claimed to be designed quite safely with a maximum speed of 15 km per hour and time charge which is short to reach a distance of up to 40 km. GrabWheels are equipped with lights when driving at night.

"After scanBarcode, later on each scooter will be notified of the remaining travel time so that users can know when tocharge," he concluded.
