Using the Right Technology for Education

The magnitude of technological growth in various industries does not necessarily have a significant impact on improving the quality and use of technology for education in Indonesia. The low quality of education and the lack of collaboration from the government, teachers and students were discussed in a discussion session initiated by Quipper.

The Co-founder and Country Manager of Quipper Takuya Homma was also present on the occasion, who revealed that there were quite striking differences in the quality of education in Indonesia compared to Japan, so that the application of technology in it was no longer needed.

"This is of course different from a country like Indonesia, which is arguably still low in terms of quality of education but has a large enough enthusiasm from the teachers to students to take advantage of technology."

Takuya added that the dynamics of the world of education in Indonesia today are almost similar to China, which has begun to integrate technology into various industries, including education.

"Beyond standard education such as mathematics, physics to biology, there are still many students who can use technology for other subjects," said Takuya.

Infrastructure problems in remote parts of Indonesia

Although currently the island of Java is quite good in terms of equitable distribution of internet connections in various regions, outside Java, these benefits have not been maximized. The lack of equitable distribution of technology is still felt to be the government's homework, to be able to apply technology in the curriculum. This was confirmed by Gatot Pramono as the Head of the Center for Information and Communication Technology (Pustekkom) Kemendikbud.

"Currently, the curriculum in Indonesia is in accordance with international standards, including the use of technology for teaching and learning. In this case, the use of learning a science using online videos. However, infrastructure problems and low initiative from the teachers still occur in schools."

Regarding infrastructure, education expert Itje Chodijah said that not only schools are obliged to support improving the quality of education in Indonesia by utilizing technology, but also local and central governments are obliged to collaborate to improve infrastructure in various regions.

"All local governments must collaborate with relevant parties in each region to realize the plan, if the area is a remote area, the more difficult efforts must be made," said Itje.

Support innovation from entrepreneur targeting the education sector

As a startup that focuses on providing alternative learning options for students to better understand English lessons outside of school education, support and collaboration from the government in terms of equitable distribution of infrastructure in the regions can help entrepreneur create innovations using technology.

"So far, the biggest problem in the world of education in Indonesia is the lack of facilities for practice, so there is still a lack of understanding of learning foreign languages ​​even though they have been given at school. That is an opportunity that Bahaso is trying to develop," said Tyovan.

Itje added, judging by the enthusiasm entrepreneur Young people create various platforms using technology, which can be a bright future for the world of education in Indonesia. Gatot Pramono said the same thing.

"We from the government see that startups that try to provide convenience in terms of education using technology are partners. Furthermore, we are also trying to issue relevant regulations to adjust technology that is starting to emerge in the world of education today," said Gatot.
