Smart Clinic Closes Series A1 Funding of IDR 78 Billion Led by Altara Ventures

Startups healthtech Klinik Pintar closed a series A1 funding round worth $5 million (around Rp. 78 billion) led by Altara Ventures, with participation from Golden Gate Ventures, Venturra, Skystar Ventures, and Japanese strategic investors in the field healthcare IT Infocom.

"With this funding, we will develop new products to improve services for clinics and partner networks. We selected Altara Ventures to lead this round and join our executive ranks because of their expertise in investing in the healthcare sector. This complements our existing investor roster and operational expertise existing ones," said Co-Founder & CEO of Klinik Pintar Harya Bimo.

Smart Clinic develops solutions to help clinic owners digitize business processes and services so that they can be integrated and connected with other health ecosystems. For its clinics, Smart Clinic services include doctor consultations, medicines, laboratories, and vaccinations which can be accessed online offline and online.

As of November 2023, Klinik Pintar operates 22 clinics, and a network of 1.500 clinic partners throughout Indonesia who have used the solution. The claim is that Smart Clinic technology has been used in 5% of the total clinics in Indonesia, or the equivalent of a more than threefold increase since the beginning of 2023.

Infocom CEO Yoichiro Hamazaki said, "We are partnering with Klinik Pintar to further contribute to improving Indonesia's health services. Their platform enables local health facilities to better manage operations and patient safety. With this collaboration, we can integrate solutions that can support our clinical decisions to the Smart Clinic platform."

Increase the scale of operations

In its official statement, Klinik Pintar revealed that it is preparing a second specialist neurology clinic in Jabodetabek this year. "We will expand our network reach and product offerings, as well as start up enter the corporate segment by building more than ten clinics on site together with leading automotive manufacturers in Indonesia."

Klinik Pintar developed the Smart Clinic Application (AKP) which is connected to the Ministry of Health's Satu Sehat platform, BPJS, and private insurance networks. This application is said to help clinics comply with the latest government regulations regarding obligations integration with Satu Sehat.

AKP offers a procurement system for ordering drugs, consumables and medical equipment that is integrated with the clinic inventory system. This feature can help clinics achieve more sustainable operating margins.

Therefore, clinic digitalization was chosen as the main approach for the Smart Clinic to be completed pivot at 2020. According to Bimo at that time, clinics touched the grassroots segment more considering that there were far more of them than hospitals in Indonesia. 

Based on data Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) in 2022, Indonesia will have 176.110 doctors. However, this figure does not meet WHO's ideal standards, which set a ratio of 1 doctor per 1.000 population. The ratio of doctors in Indonesia is only 0,63 doctors per 1.000 population. In Singapore, the doctor ratio is at the level of 2,5, and 1-1,5 doctor to doctor ratio in other developing countries.
