Rocket Internet Plans to Launch Fintech Services in Indonesia

There are no details about the fintech sub-sector that will be explored

Asia Pacific Internet Group (APIG), which is in charge of handling all Rocket Internet activities in the Asia Pacific region, including Indonesia, plans to launch a service financial technology (fintech). The information was briefly conveyed by Asia Pacific Internet Group CEO Hanno Stegmann on the sidelines of the activity Global Ventures Summit 2017. So far, APIG has yet to provide detailed information on what fintech subsector will be targeted.

"Surely I'm enough" excited with plans from APIG related to the fintech services that we will launch. However, because we are currently still in the exploratory stage, we are still unable to provide further information,” said Hanno.

So far, Rocket Internet has focused on e-commerce and e-commerce services listing for the Asian market. Achievement Lazada as a unicorn startup and the acquisition by Alibaba is claimed to be quite a proud achievement for APIG.

"Although we have experienced several failures, with the success that has been achieved by Lazada, APIG has become more existent and quite credible until now, especially in Southeast Asia," said Hanno.

APIG itself ensures that Indonesia is an important market and continues to play an active role in its startup ecosystem.

"So far, APIG has invested quite a lot in Indonesia, at least it has invested 3-4 times in Indonesia last year. We feel quite active in the Indonesian startup ecosystem at this time,” said Hanno.

Zalora's future

If before reported Zalora Indonesia is having problems running a business and plans to sell it, Hanno denied. To DailySocial Hanno revealed that two months ago the APIG team had just received the latest report from Zalora which showed good growth. After selling its business in Vietnam and Thailand last year, fashion commerce service Zalora has sold its business in the Philippines.

"We are quite optimistic about Zalora and the Global Fashion Group, especially with the increasing growth of Zalora's business in Indonesia. In the future, we will focus on core market Zalora in Indonesia and will continue to invest in the Global Fashion Group," said Hanno.

Apart from Zalora, APIG still has several active startups in Indonesia, including Lamudi, Carmudi, Lyke and ZenRooms.
