Northstar Starts Targeting Early Stage Startups, Prepares 1,5 Trillion Rupiah Funds

Target startups in the financial, consumer, and digital economy with an investment ticket size of around $500k

Company private equityNorthstar Group Reportedly, it is preparing a special managed fund to invest in early-stage startups. According to our sources, Northstar has set up a debut fund of around $100 million (approximately 1,5 trillion Rupiah).

Later they will inject startup pre seed and seed with ticket sizes ranging from $ 500 thousand (about 7,5 billion Rupiah). The investment hypothesis is not far from what has been done before, namely targeting startups in the financial, consumer, and digital economy fields.

When contacted DailySocial.id, Northstar representatives declined to comment on the market rumours, but confirmed that the company does have an interest in the area [investing in startups seed].

Previously Northstar was known as a late-stage startup and/or corporate investor --- investment ticket sizes could reach $20 million. At the end of 2021, the company also just announced the closure of funds "flagship" Northstar Equity Partners V Limited with a commitment value of $590 million or around 8,3 trillion Rupiah.

In total, Northstar currently manages a portfolio with a value of more than $2,5 billion (more than 35 trillion Rupiah). This year they also participated in the continued funding of a number of local startups, such as Moladin, Pintu, DailyBox, Sayurbox, and NOICE.

To expand its coverage, Northstar has also agreed to form a partnership with Google joint business plan. The focus is to jointly accelerate the growth of the digital economy in Southeast Asia.

As explained by one of the company directors, through this initiative Northstar will focus on investing and allocating resources to provide local market knowledge. While Google will help a lot with the technology element, it will also teach best practices from global case studies.
