Applications Encouraging People to Live Healthy by Exercising

Gamification-based and combined with virtual runs and marathons

Utilizing technology, a platform that aims to motivate Indonesians to move, run and participate together in positive actions officially launched in February 2019. Founded by three people with backgrounds freelance designers and developer program yaitu Jesslin Sevenlen, Septian Rahman, and Michael; The "Motion" application is now available for download on iOS and Android devices.

To DailySocial Gerak Connector Septian Rahman said the main purpose of the Gerak application was to invite, challenge and motivate people to run anywhere and anytime.

"Motion isn't actually the first startup we've had before founder have also pioneered other startups for 2 years and failed. The lessons and experiences we have learned is that ideas are very easy to find, but it is the commitment and execution that are most important. In just 2 months, we managed to release the Gerak application on Android and iOS, and released the first virtual event titled Gerak Ramadan Run 2019."

Along the way, the founders of Gerak saw a lot of enthusiasm and positive responses from people who have taken advantage of the platform. In particular, the Movement puts forward three aspects, namely from purpose/value, technology and brand.

How Motion works

The way the app works is similar to the app tracking run Strava, but Motion has a significant difference because it is combined with events virtual run which paid users can follow. Simply put, users can take part in a running race or marathon from anywhere, not focusing on a single location.

"Every event or successfully completed challenges will get rewards, besides living a healthier life, after finish will get a medal jersey and other prizes according to the theme of the event. At the same time participating in helping donate and other social activities," said Septian.

Currently, Gerak has around 2500 active users. Various activities have also been launched. With limited capital, Gerak managed to get 600 people to register and run during the month of Ramadan.

"Our target this year is to reach 10 thousand Indonesians to start actively running and successfully organize a minimum of 10 thousand people virtual run events and challenges," Septian said.

Still running business bootstrapped, this year also Gerak has plans to raise funds. The hope is that the founders of Gerak can find investors who share the same vision, which is to support a healthy way of life for the community. If later successfully obtained, the additional capital will be used to increase the number of teams and accelerate business growth both in terms of products and markets.

"All activities virtual run Gerak is more focused on helping the environment and helping users to form habits of movement and exercise. in terms of brand itself, Gerak focuses on building good relationships with users and the community of course," closed Septian.
