Knowing the Meaning of "Startup Centaur"

Most of us have probably heard the term "unicorn" or "unicorn startup". Big startups like Gojek, Tokopedia, or Traveloka fall into this category. The unicorn is a mythical animal that describes startups with a company value of over $1 billion (Rp 14 trillion). This bombastic and extraordinary value requires extraordinary "description" as well.

Next comes the new term "startup centaur". What exactly is this centaur? centaur, a half-human and half-horse creature in Greek mythology (or Sagittarius in Roman mythology), first revealed by Dave McClure, to accompany unicorns.

Centaur, as the "unicorn future" or "unicorn sister", has a company value of between $100 million (Rp1,4 trillion) and $1 billion (Rp14 trillion). Some people use the term "soonunicorn" to describe the position of the centaur among startup terms.

In Indonesia itself already there are <10 unicorns and 40+ centaurs. It is these centaurs who hope that in the next 1-3 years they can enter the ranks of unicorns.
