Jangjo Presents B2B Sector Waste Management Solutions

A World Bank report suggests that the business sector contributes significantly to waste streams in Indonesia

According to the World Bank, Indonesia generates more than 65 million tons of waste annually, but only about 10-15% is properly managed. The report also confirms that the business/industrial sector contributes significantly to this waste stream, generating various forms of waste, including packaging materials, industrial by-products, and e-waste.

One of the platforms that then tries to present a solution to the B2B sector in waste management is Jangjo. Currently their clients include managers of shopping centers, offices, recreation areas, and housing.

To DailySocial.id, Jangjo CEO Joe Hansen, revealed the company's future plans.

Focus on the B2B sector

After receiving initial funding from Darmawan Capital, Jangjo wanted to create a sustainable waste management solution with a concept circular economy for the sake of connecting the stakeholder. Stakeholder what is meant includes waste generators (community), waste carriers (operators), temporary waste shelters (hubs), and (industrial) waste management.

Jangjo also wanted to modernize the waste management process by encouraging collaboration stakeholder through technology so as to provide economic benefits and impact on the environment.

Currently, companies that have partnered with Jangjo include Plaza Indonesia, Mall of Indonesia, Grand Hyatt, Ashta, PIK Avenue, and others.

"Basically, Jangjo wants to solve waste as a whole. However, the largest source of waste turns out to be B2B, namely template, hotels, office, compared to housing. With this we see impact what we provide can be bigger and we can also carry out measurements more effectively," said Joe.

Claiming as a platform waste management that implements the process end-to-end, Jangjo until now, they are still continuing to carry out education, pick-up, and strategies for reducing waste to landfills. Jangjo is committed to perform zero waste, so the company adopts a comprehensive waste reduction strategy, such as use maggot for food waste, as well as sorting up to 60 types of material for recycling by partners.

"There are two important points for expanding our services, namely through collaboration and innovation. What we will do is collaborate with various parties, including the government and the community. Because with this we believe, the waste problem can be solved together," said Joe.

Another thing that is also the focus of Jangjo is to put forward various innovations, both in educating the public, as well as in terms of technology according to the needs of modern waste processing.

The monetization strategy currently being implemented by Jangjo is quite simple, namely by tipping fees and beneficiaries value of the material they receive.

Sustainable waste management

Indonesia is currently facing a significant waste management crisis. Characterized by inadequate infrastructure, limited recycling initiatives, and rapid population growth.

Even though Indonesia has established regulations related to waste management, the enforcement and implementation of these regulations remains inconsistent. Clearer and stricter regulations for waste disposal, recycling and producer responsibility are needed to drive businesses towards sustainable practices.

Adopting a circular economy approach can also help minimize waste generation. Businesses can implement ideal ways to reduce packaging, promote recycled use, and incorporate recycled materials into their production processes. This not only reduces waste but also lowers costs in the long run.

DailySocial.id too take notes another reason waste management is still difficult to do is the cost of waste management which is too cheap compared to the responsibilities that must be carried out. This exorbitantly cheap fee has been enjoyed by residents for years, so it's only a small increase can get protests.

Going forward, Jangjo sees that waste management for consumers and businesses will still face many challenges. But the presence of platforms like Jangjo, MallTrash, Recosystem, Waste4Change and my WLabIt is hoped that this will expedite the waste and waste management process more effectively.

"Difficult but necessary. Without good waste management, business growth can actually boomerang for our next life. Because of this, Jangjo has a vision to build a balance between the environment and humans," said Joe.
