IDPRO Regrets the Indication of External Pressure for Revision of PP 82/2012

Party Kemenkominfo denied, the article planned revisions since 2016

The Indonesia Data Center Provider Organizaton (IDPRO) again expressed its objections regarding the planned revision of Government Regulation no. 82 of 2012 concerning the Implementation of Electronic Systems and Transactions. This time, the protest was filed under the pretext of the government getting pressure from outsiders, in this case the United States.

IDPRO's statement is based on the sentence conveyed by the Minister of Trade, Enggartiasto Lukita, that the revision of PP 82/2012 was partly due to the results of the US evaluation of Indonesia's eligibility as a recipient of the Generalized System of Preference (GSP). GSP itself is a unilateral US policy to help the economy in the form of cutting import duties.

According to the general chairman of IDPRO, Kalamullah Ramli as quoted in Indotelko, it should arouse a sense of nationality. The government's way is not inspiring and does not show confidence. Data is an important commodity that must be protected by policy. Ramli also mentioned that regulations in Indonesia should be able to stand up straight like regulations in other countries, such as in India for example.

Regarding this, we tried to ask for confirmation from public relations Kemenkominfo, they revealed that the revision of PP 82/2018 had nothing to do with the GSP. This is because this revision plan was initiated in 2016. On another occasion the Minister of Communication and Informatics Rudiantara has also emphasized that the revision was purely made to help digital businesses develop, it has nothing to do with outside negotiations -- for example plans AWS to Indonesia with a big investment.

Previously, we also reviewed the revision of PP 82/2012. In that review, we also analyze usage well-known startup server system in Indonesia. Most of them take advantage of the services of foreign providers. Although there are also those who use local services.
