How to Overcome an Unreadable Flashdisk on a Laptop

3 easy ways that anyone can do

An unreadable flash drive on a laptop will certainly be a disaster, especially if it turns out that all important data is only stored on the flash drive. Or, even if there is no data in it, of course you want the flash to remain in top condition.

The causes of the flash that cannot be read by laptops vary, including:

  • The flash drive is already damaged.
  • Incorrect eject procedure.
  • The USB port is worn out so it can't connect to the flash drive.
  • The computer's USB driver has a problem or asks for an update.
  • Windows is the problem.

Then, is there a solution to overcome the unreadable flash on the computer?

There are, some of which we will discuss in this article.

Try Using Another Laptop

When the flash fails to be read by the PC, you don't necessarily conclude that the flash is damaged. Since this kind of thing involves multiple devices, you also need to determine which device is the problem.

One way is to try to plug the unreadable flash drive into another laptop. If you have done it and it still fails, don't be discouraged. While this confirms your concern, there are other possible solutions.

Fix it with Features in Windows

Windows has a complementary weapon that is also possible to make the PC again able to read the problematic flash. Namely by using the Repair Device feature via Disk Management.

  • First, connect the flash drive to the USB port on the laptop.
  • Right-click on the Windows icon and then click Disk Management.
  • Click on your flash disk, depending on each configuration, there is no default code.
  • Then click Properties - Tools - Check.
  • Next, click scan and repair drives.

  • Wait until the repair process is complete. And if you have, please try to unplug and reconnect your flash drive.

Format your Flashdisk

This is the last and extreme solution if the two methods above don't work. But yes, all the data in the flash will be lost. So, use this step wisely.

  • The trick, connect the flash to the laptop.
  • Then open Command Prompt.
  • Type the command format FORMAT F: /FS:FAT (where F: is the location of your disk)

  • Press enter and wait for the formatting process to take place.

Those are 3 ways to solve an unreadable flash on a laptop or PC. Good luck with your problem, see you soon.
