Guessing the Potential Development of Startups in the Health Sector

#SelasaStartup session discussion with Co-Founder & CIO Halodoc Doddy Lukito

2017 is predicted to be the beginning of healthtech or technology-based health services in Indonesia. Even with the naked eye, it is easy to find some gaps that can be optimized using technology, such as queuing systems, consulting services and so on. And little by little, these innovations are now visible in the midst of the hectic development of national startups.

Seeing the trend, in the weekly discussion session DailySocial #TuesdayStartup invited Co-Founder & CIO Halodoc Doddy Lukito. In his presentation he told several things related to technological innovations that could help Indonesian people to easily access health services.

From an internal survey conducted Halodoc, currently the distribution of doctors who are on active duty is still not balanced with the needs of the community – especially in areas with difficult to access geographical environments. For example, in Indonesia there are only about 600 cardiologists, to treat all patients in Indonesia. Seeing this fact, it is very difficult to crave good health services.

When printing as many doctors as possible in the near future is not an effective solution, then a digital approach can be designed to help. For example, what was done by Halodoc. With application innovation smartphone, the service tries to connect the public with doctors. The business process in it allows doctors to work like when they practice, only they don't directly meet their patients.

It is considered that this method will continue to present breakthroughs in the health sector, with various existing limitations. Apart from being able to communicate directly with doctors who handle public complaints, Halodoc also integrates consulting services with a drug ordering system that can also be done virtually. Simply put, business processes that usually exist in clinics and pharmacies are simplified in a single service in the application.

Recipes are also presented by pharmaceutical companies that are partners. Here, it has begun to be seen, about the need for synergies that must be forged by innovators in the field of heal tech with various interested parties – not only doctors, but also pharmacists and drug companies.

"Therefore, as a technology-based health service developer, we must be able to achieve harmony with parties related to the health ecosystem, in order to achieve maximum results," said Doddy.

Doddy also emphasized that health services combined with technology are developing faster, in terms of service innovation. For example for drug delivery, now Halodoc start working with the service on-demand throughout its regional base.
