Grab Get Additional Funding from Yamaha Motor Worth 2 Trillion Rupiah

Collaborate to develop ride-hailing services in Indonesia

Yamaha Motor and Grab today (13/12) announced a strategic partnership to maximize the potential of two-wheeled transportation in Indonesia. As part of the agreement, Yamaha Motor will invest in Grab valued at $150 million (2,1 trillion Rupiah equivalent). This is a follow-up investment involving the company in the automotive sector after the previous one Hyundai and Kia Motors an injection of funds equivalent to 3,5 trillion Rupiah.

Through this partnership Yamaha Motor and Grab will develop a series of solutions. First, the company will leverage Yamaha technology to improve the safety of partners and passengers of motorcycle-based services. Second, Yamaha will provide incentives in the form of easy access to purchases for anyone interested in becoming a service partner ride hailing Grab.

"In addition to improving safety and comfort, [there will be] the application of a new type of Yamaha Motor technology as a transportation system that is more user-involved. We also predict improvements in mobility systems in the future, and the creation of new mobility solutions," said the General Manager of Motorcycle Business Operations Yamaha Motor Takuya Kinoshita.

To reach the long-term vision of the two countries, this collaboration will also include exploration of the latest technologies such as robotics to address issues related to mobility systems.

President Grab Ming Maa said the safety of the driver partners and customers is the most important thing for Grab. It is hoped that this collaboration can give birth to innovative solutions for services ride hailing.

Earlier this year Grab have targeted to do new fundraiser up to $3 billion. Several large companies and venture capitalists have taken part, including Booking Holdings, Microsoft, Toyota, to Kasikorn Bank.
