Go-Jek Acquires India's LeftShift to Strengthen Mobile Application Team

Go-Jek announced the acquisition of LeftShift, an India-based mobile application development consultancy. With this acquisition, or rather acqui-hire, the LeftShift developers will join forces with Bangalore-based Go-Jek Engineering India. This will add back to the ranks of technical jobs "exported" to India.

LeftShift Previously, he was a Go-Jek consultant in mobile application development. Go-Jek Engineering India Managing Director Sidu Ponnappa said in a statement that Go-Jek has been a Leftshift client for the past year and lauds Leftshift among the best mobile application developers in the country.

Go-Jek is not the only Indonesian startup that uses LeftShift services. Tokopedia is also included in its portfolio line.

As quoted from e27, Leftshift Founder and CEO Sudhanshu Raheja said in a statement, "The opportunities and challenges at Go-Jek are extraordinary. Understanding how its operations work, we know that our resources and technology will complement and accelerate Go-Jek's product development."

Never acquired developer services in Indonesia

Go-Jek has acquired at least 3 technology consulting services (and one health technology service) in India, while in Indonesia it is most likely that it has just acquired an e-money license holder. Why did they choose to develop a technical team in India and not acquire a local consultant?

With Go-Jek's track record of previously cooperating with a number of local consultants during the early development of the Go-Jek application, there may be certain standards that unfortunately do not match Go-Jek. Whether it's the quality of the work or the price that needs to be paid, the establishment of Go-Jek Engineering India is a strong signal that these technical works will not return to Indonesia in the near future.
