Tokopedia Releases Airline Ticket Purchase Feature

Tokopedia released a feature to purchase airline tickets to complement digital products, especially in the transportation sector. There is no official statement from Tokopedia regarding this new feature. For now, this feature is only available on the Android version.

Previously, Tokopedia only had train ticket services for its transportation segment. The company utilizes the API of PT Kereta Api Indonesia to provide these services. At this time, there is no explanation from Tokopedia whether the company is using the API from each airline or partnering with one of the OTA players.

Tokopedia provides domestic travel routes with airlines such as Air Asia, Batik Air, Citilink, XpressAir, Garuda, Kal Star, Lion Air, and many more.

The purchase process is the same as when users transact on Tokopedia. Choose a destination, flight schedule from the airline, then fill in your personal data. Users can also add travel insurance every time they make a transaction from an insurance company that has partnered with Tokopedia.

The payment methods that can be used are TokoCash, credit cards, bank transfers, virtual accounts, instant payments, and outlet payments. Users can also make changes or cancel flights if something happens.

Other services with similar features

Marketplace services have evolved into "all-in-one services", including travel. Bukalapak has already launched a similar feature last year. According to Bukalapak's representative, the company has partners as a liaison between the airline's API and Bukalapak.

Currently Bukalapak provides a variety of domestic and international flight routes, especially in Asian countries.

Blibli has also used the Tiket.com API to provide flight ticket feature services. Blibli said in a previous interview that it would use the Tiket.com database, such as purchasing hotel rooms, airline tickets, and trains to target Blibli users.
