Facebook and PayPal Join as New Investors Gojek

PayPal payment service will be integrated into Gojek

Today (03/6) Gojek announced Facebook and PayPal to be the latest investors in the latest round of fundraising with an undisclosed amount. Google and Tencent also added to their investment; previously they had joined in the previous round in 2018.

It is known beforehand, the last round that is being encouraged Gojek is series F . funding. Various investors, especially from global corporate circles, have joined. This fund is focused on expansion activities and strengthening the company's competitive value.

In their official statement, the two investors wanted to support the mission Gojek, through GoPay, in driving digital economic growth in Southeast Asia, with a focus on payment and financial services. Bearing in mind, the majority of SMEs in this region still rely on cash in transactions.

More SMEs are targeted towards digitization. From small and medium-sized businesses operating in roadside shops, to large-scale businesses looking to strengthen their digital payment infrastructure.

The four investors, which incidentally are global technology companies, will synergize all their resources so that the mission can be realized immediately.

Co-CEO Gojek Andre Soelistyo said Facebook, PayPal, Google and Tencent were recognitions where the most innovative technology companies in the world saw a positive impact Gojek towards Indonesia and Southeast Asia.

Statements also came from Facebook representatives. WhatsApp COO Matt Idema said; Gojek, WhatsApp, and Facebook are important services in Indonesia. "Through cooperation, we can help millions of MSMEs and their customers to join the largest digital economic community in Southeast Asia," he said.

It is also emphasized that Gojek is the first Indonesian company to receive investment from Facebook. This company wants to create business opportunities in Indonesia, including through services instant messaging which is widely used is WhatsApp.

Meanwhile, PayPal will collaborate with Gojek. PayPal will open its network which has reached 25 million merchant around the world.

PayPal Head of Corporate Development and Ventures for APAC Farhad Maleki added, “Southeast Asia is at a very crucial point in the digital adoption process which can create new opportunities to provide financial services to consumers and service providers who have not been connected to banking services. ”
