East Ventures and Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Launch "ECOVISEA", Helping Businesses Calculate Greenhouse Gas Emissions
ECOVISEA measures direct emissions from company-generated sources and indirect emissions from purchased energy
East Ventures and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin Indonesia), today (06/2) officially launched the ECOVISEA portal, which stands for Emission Calculator & Visualization Southeast Asia.
ECOVISEA is a web-based global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions calculator platform that can be used for free by companies to calculate and measure their environmental impact. In developing this service, we are collaborating with WRI Indonesia as knowledge partner and Climatiq as a provider of global standard emission factor data.
“Sustainability has become part of DNA East Ventures since its inception. We are pleased to introduce ECOVISEA, a free, web-based GHG calculator designed for businesses and MSMEs throughout Indonesia and Southeast Asia. "Launched as a result of real collaboration with KADIN Indonesia and WRI Indonesia, ECOVISEA is proof of collaborative efforts in utilizing digital technology, industry-specific expertise and field insight," said East Ventures Partner Avina Sugiarto.

It is known that Indonesia is one of the 10 largest emitting countries with a contribution of ~1,48 GtCO2e (gigaton carbon dioxide equivalent) to GHG emissions each year. Therefore, extra efforts are needed to ensure progressive progress in achieving the Paris Agreement target, namely limiting global temperature rise to 1,5 degrees Celsius by 2050.
Calculating emissions by companies related to the resulting environmental impact is a crucial and fundamental step. By doing so, they can reduce environmental impacts or make informed decisions to achieve sustainability targets. Even though calculating GHG emissions is crucial, many companies in Indonesia, from large, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to startups, have not calculated their carbon footprint. This is generally caused by a lack of access to knowledge and expertise in calculating GHG emissions.
"This initiative reflects our commitment through Kadin Net Zero Hub to help national companies in the transition towards a Net Zero Company. ECOVISEA is an essential platform for Indonesian companies to measure and reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. We are confident that ECOVISEA will play "an important role in enabling national companies to collectively achieve the government's target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and achieving Net Zero Emissions by 2060," said Deputy General Chair Coordinator for Maritime Affairs, Investment and Foreign Affairs of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Shinta W. Kamdani.
How ECOVISEA works
ECOVISEA is designed to calculate the emissions produced by a company based on the following three scopes:
- Direct emissions from sources owned or controlled by the company, such as stationary combustion, emissions runaway, mobile combustion, process emissions, etc.
- Indirect emissions from purchased energy generation, such as purchased electricity, heat or steam, etc.
- All other indirect emissions from the company's value chain, both from upstream and downstream value chains.
The two emission factors above are provided by Climatiq, a global standard carbon calculation engine that complies with the GHG Protocol and ISO 14067. For the current version, ECOVISEA can support companies in calculating scope 1, 2, and some parts of scope 3. The full version will be launched in first half of 2024.
ECOVISEA is designed to prioritize the privacy policies of company data uploaded to the platform; will only be used to calculate the company's GHG emissions. This platform will temporarily store data uploaded by users to create a dashboard as a result of calculating the company's GHG emissions.
"We believe that democratizing knowledge about accurate emissions calculations can make a significant contribution to industrial decarbonization efforts in Indonesia. Therefore, it is very important to simplify the process input data to help companies overcome the challenge of estimating their emissions correctly because data presentation and data entry procedures are often complicated," said WRI Indonesia Country Director Nirarta Samadhi.
