e27 Announces Series A Funding Amount Of 29 Billion Rupiah

Indonesian investors Convergence Ventures and Turochas Fuad took part in this funding round

Asian technology media e27 announced the acquisition of Series A funding of SG$ 3 million (or around 29 billion Rupiah) from a number of investors led by the Chinese TechTemple Group. Jakarta-based Convergence Ventures and Turochas Fuad, an Indonesian who lives in Singapore and has sold his startup Travelmob (now Spacemob) to Homeaway, are involved in the funding this time.

Also participating were Linear Venture, Venturecraft, Spacemob, and Douglas Khoo (Co-Founder of Qunar). This partnership with Chinese, Singaporean and Indonesian investors is said to be in line with the mission e27 to push Southeast Asia's technology ecosystem in a better direction.

e27 was founded by Mohan Belani and Thaddeus Koh in 2007. Initially a blog and creator of the annual Echelon event in a number of Asian countries, now e27 has begun to evolve into a digital platform for information on startups in Southeast Asia. DailySocial and e27 themselves work together every year to present Echelon Indonesia, a conference, exhibition, and search for potential new startups.

e27 Co-Founder and CEO Mohan Belani said, "Over the past 12 months, e27 has invested time and skills into building the foundation of our online platform. This includes a digital job database, marketplace, and database services and matching between startups and investors. This product free to use by the community - in line with the company's vision to assist entrepreneurs by developing relevant products and services to serve the needs of startups and the technology industry in general."

This database platform will be used to drive the growth of Southeast Asia's technology ecosystem in a better direction, with the China - Singapore - Indonesia axis as the key.

Series entrepreneur Douglas Khoo in his statement added, "I strongly believe in the need to train and educate technology professionals in Southeast Asia. Working with China will accelerate the growth opportunities in Southeast Asia, rather than competing. Now is the time for the next generation to drive the ecosystem."

- Disclosure: The parent company of e27 is an investor in DailySocial.
