Digital TV Broadcasting Planned to Start this Year

The migration process from analogue TV to digital TV has entered the registration stage of prospective digital TV broadcasting operators or what the government calls Multiplexing Broadcasting Organizing Institutions (LPPPM). This registration process has been opened since last June 5 and ends on June 18. Cash report, currently 41 companies have registered as digital TV stations.

The government through the Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) will conduct a selection of all registered institutions. Institutions that pass the selection and are considered ready to organize digital broadcasts will be announced on July 31.

Kominfo target, this year digital television stations will start broadcasting at least in big cities. Nationally, analog-switch off (cessation of analog television broadcasts) is targeted to be carried out in 2018.

Even though it is still in the selection stage, the number of 41 companies that have registered to obtain rights as digital television stations illustrates that our television broadcasts will become more diverse with an increasing number of television stations. Moreover, if the right is obtained, each broadcasting institution will get 12 frequency channels for broadcasting. These channels can later be used alone or leased to other parties. The increasing number of these television stations is one of the advantages of migrating from analog broadcasts to digital broadcasts.
