This is the Difference between Digital TV and Analog TV, You Need to Know!

Who doesn't know what digital and analog tv is. Of course in many ways there will be differences between the two. But not many people know which differences exist between these two tvs.

Digital TV has spread widely throughout Indonesia, but with this development it will definitely move and make analog TV disappear. Many people still watch analog TV, while others have started to switch to digital TV.

The Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Menkominfo) has announced that it will end analog TV broadcasts throughout Indonesia no later than November 2, 2022. Of course, special attention is paid to the transition of some people to digital TV.

Of course, the main reason for using a TV is that it has more programs and a clear picture. Analog and digital television are very different, starting from the signal received and the resulting image quality. Here are some differences between analog and digital television that you need to know.

Definition of Analog TV and Digital TV

Reporting from the Kominfo website, digital TV broadcasts use digital signal modulation and compression systems that present sharper and cleaner images.

In addition, the sound becomes clearer and resembles the picture and sound quality of YouTube, Netflix and Co.

During broadcast, digital television only recognizes two states, accept (1) or not (0). If the broadcast receiving device is capable of receiving digital signals, picture and sound can be enjoyed.

Analog television, on the other hand, can be interpreted as television that depends on the frequency of the signal sent by the broadcaster. The farther the antenna is from the transmitter location, the worse the image will be recorded.

This is due to the weak transmitter signal received by the antenna. Not to mention the weather problem which also affects TV signal reception, resulting in poor picture and sound quality.

But for now, analog TV owners can still enjoy digital TV broadcasts without having to buy a new TV. All people have to do is use a device called a set-top box that is installed in old TVs. A decoder is a device for recording digital broadcasts so that analog television can receive them.

The difference between Analog TV and Digital TV

So, here are some clear differences between analog TV and digital TV:

1. Size

The difference between analog and digital television can be seen clearly in the size, as explained below:

Analog television itself uses a cathode ray tube which of course makes analog television look much bigger and takes up a lot of space in the room.

Digital TV itself uses a flat panel screen which consists of several devices, such as LCD, plasma and LED. In addition, with different sizes, it is very easy for us to determine what we need, usually digital TVs are between 30-50 inches in size.

2. Signal

The difference between the two is signal reception, with analog TV being limited in that it only accepts UHF antenna signals and is still in analog form, making it much more susceptible to interference or distortion when using these TVs. At the same time, digital television itself processes the received signal directly.

3. TV Picture Resolution

Of course you don't want blurry pictures while watching TV? With digital TV, the displayed image is limited according to the broadcast antenna receiving the signal, so it's easy to get a blurry picture.

In terms of image resolution, the digital TV itself has several image quality modes ranging from 480p resolution to Full HD 1080p. Of course you can adjust this with different digital TV resolutions.

4. TV Transmitter

Analog television usually depends on the distance between television broadcasting stations. This of course indicates that the farther the distance between the transmitting stations, the more difficult it is for the antenna to receive signals and cause interference or problems. But the use of digital television itself does not depend on the distance to the broadcaster or the distance.

5. Audio

More Coverage:

The difference between analog and digital TV audio is quite clear, analog TV usually starts from mono and then develops into 2 stereo channels. At the same time, the digital TV itself can support five audio channels in addition to the subwoofer's bass channel.

6. Features

The next difference between analog and digital television is the output characteristics. Analog TV itself does not have advanced features, while digital TV has various services and features as well as interactive services.

7. Power Consumption

Analog and digital TV have differences in power consumption, in general, analog TV uses more power than digital TV.

Of course, so far we have seen that digital television has many advantages compared to analog television, starting from differences in format, image resolution, sound, signal and interesting features. Of course we know the differences and peculiarities between the two.
