5 basic principles of e-commerce implementation

From the results of the discussions and workshops that have been promoted, 5 basic principles in implementing e-commerce have emerged, namely:

  1. All Indonesian citizens must be given the opportunity to access and conduct e-commerce transactions.
  2. All Indonesians must be equipped with the skills and abilities to take advantage of the benefits of the information economy.
  3. Layoffs should be minimized during the transition to an internet economy, and net job gains should be positive after deducting the impact creative destruction.
  4. A clear legal framework must be in place to ensure a safe and open e-commerce industry, including technology neutrality, transparency and international consistency.
  5. National players, especially digital startups and SMEs, must be protected as well as possible. Local business and national industrial growth must be a top priority.

The results of the e-commerce roadmap are then consulted with each ministry and institution involved as well as with relevant stakeholders including idEA and PT Pos Indonesia, so that the solution is easy to practice and work on. From the results of various explorations stakeholder which covers 6 areas/problems and uses the 5 basic principles above, resulting in a total of 31 initiatives that are cross cutting between ministries, agencies and other stakeholders.

"If the 31 initiatives are implemented in a disciplined and timely manner and on target, it is estimated that the transaction value (e-commerce) will reach $130 billion in 2020. With the condition that implementation must have started by the end of January 2016," said Ismail.

Roadmap e-commerce is a follow-up to the direction of the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo so that the e-commerce industry in Indonesia can grow well, as has been done in developed countries such as China and the United States.
