Venturra Capital Supported by Lippo Group Prepares Two Trillion Rupiah Funds to Invest in Southeast Asia

Independent VC Venture Capital, sponsored by Lippo Group, announced the availability of $150 million (approximately IDR 2 trillion) in the form of Venturra Capital Fund I. John Riady, Rudy Ramawy, and Stefan Jung will act as Managing Partners of Venturra Capital. Lippo's portfolio through Lippo Digital Ventures (LDV) will be combined in this investment package.

Venturra Capital will focus on operating in Indonesia and other countries in Southeast Asia and investing in the early stages of growth. They are looking for startups with individual consumers (e-commerce, financial services, health, and education), Internet of Things (IoT) and B2B sectors. In addition to those invested through LDV, they have invested in 10 startups that have not been officially announced in the last few weeks.

The main difference between Venturra Capital and LDV is the presence of other investors outside the Lippo Group. Stefan Jung explained, "The difference is that at Lippo Digital Ventures Lippo Group is the only LP [Limited Partner], which is invested off the balance sheet. Now we are adding more investors and preparing an independent VC funding package with a GP [General Partner] structure - LPs. Also the total funding size has tripled. Lippo is still the largest LP and we can benefit from group access to increase synergies in retail, media, real estate, financial services, healthcare, hospitality, and others."

Stefan further said, "We have seen tremendous growth in the technology industry in Southeast Asia over the past few years -- the quality of entrepreneurs and investors has also improved tremendously. We want to work with the best entrepreneurs to form market leaders across the region and use our experience and expertise to grow our business internationally."

Both John Riady and Rudy Ramawy are involved in the operations of Lippo Group and MatahariMall, while Stefan Jung was previously a Partner at Singapore-based Monk's Hill Ventures and was a key player in the development of Rocket Internet's business in Southeast Asia. Rudy, as we know, was previously the Country Director of Google Indonesia.
