Sony Closes 20 Retail Stores in the United States

News about them resign The PC industry is sad, but now Sony is closing two-thirds of major retail stores in the United States.

From the official website Sony, they announced a major overhaul of the entire organizational structure.

When they announced they were leaving the PC market to focus on smartphone, tablets and cameras, Sony realized that they had to lay off approximately 5000 employees. The bad news doesn't stop there, at the end of 2014 they will cut the number of employees by 1000 people.

Sony explained that they were forced to do this in order to save budget and continue working with partners. For that they also need to disable large retail stores, and finally Sony decided to close 20 retail stores in the United States with the remaining 11 stores still open.

The President and COO of Sony Electronics, Mike Fasulo, explained, "Although this step is very difficult for us, Sony must continue to do it to ensure our development going forward. I am very confident in our ability to turn things around, in pursuit of future goals, and continue our commitment to customer loyalty by providing the full entertainment experience that only Sony can deliver."

With the success of the PS4, we wonder why this happened to Sony. But the perspective taker from one line of business is a narrow perspective.

Sony is a large 'multimedia' company that concentrates on many areas. They handle hardware, gadgets, technology research to the big screen business. And from rumors circulating on the internet, Sony Pictures itself is experiencing financial problems in working on the latest Spider-Man film.

From their announcement, Sony is now focusing on premium products and developing 4K and 2K display technologies. They plan to introduce it on a large scale in 2014.

According to Sony, the television business in the United States is currently in a healthy state and who knows it can make up for the losses caused by the closure of two-thirds of their retail stores in the country.
