Nadiem Makarim Emphasizes the Function of Education and Technology to Improve the Quality of Digital Talent

Minister of Education and Culture (Mendikbud) Nadiem Makarim emphasizing the function of education and technology as a shortcut (shortcuts) to improve the quality of digital talent in Indonesia.

"I am very excited regarding technology education programs in Indonesia. The first reason, this is my field, so I'm a little biased, I recognized it. Second, if Indonesia wants to progress, its human resources are superior, it is impossible to do it in the same way as other countries, it will not arrive," he explained when he was present at Google for Indonesia, Wednesday (20/11).

According to him, the fastest way to increase talent is through the digitization of education and technology. However, the most important thing is not from the technology side, but from the or the system itself. How can he form a human, increasing his capabilities from level 1, 2, to level 5, 6, and 7.

"There is scalability that one individual does with technological guidance, he can be multiplier, can be 10 times more productive, more efficient."

Working to build technology, according to him, also makes the way of working different. In that way, humans can hone a very good product or service user-centric. Technology also gives honest results, nothing to hide.

If the product does not work, the results will be immediately visible real-time, this is very much needed for a company or organization that is very user oriented.

"Technology also forces us to collaborate, forces us to question our decisions every day, forces us to create outcome that user oriented."

Technology education that Google brings through Rise, he really appreciates because this momentum is fairly rare. However, he asked that the scope of this program could be expanded, not just 300 children, if possible 300 thousand children. The government is ready to help with this.

"Don't say no possible first, let's think about it over the time can we not reach that scale."

He also asked all technology companies, not only Google, to prioritize Indonesia as number one in the world. Therefore, he appealed to all technology companies that have a community or other to be open. Do not hesitate to ask the government for help what they need.

"Get it straight, this is what we need to get to these numbers." Don't be shy because in my ministry, the paradigm is now being changed. We are not regulators but ecosystem enabler."

According to him, currently the cabinet is prepared to be very progressive and ready to be invited to collaborate. Even in its place, it applies an agile approach methodology, as is commonly used in technology startups. OKR concept (Objectives and Key Results) also began to be implemented.

Nadiem believes that collaboration between the private sector and the government is the most important thing to advance local human resources.
