Mobile Applications Are Increasingly Addicted To Smartphone Users

Shifting the use of web browsers to access various types of digital services

It is a common fact surrounding the increasing use of smartphones and devices mobile devices others in Indonesia. A study conducted by Baidu on smartphone users in Indonesia shows a fact that application penetration is higher (97%) than web browser (76%) to access various digital services.

For developers of course this is important to be a concern. According to Baidu's research results, the application mobile devices will offer an increasingly promising income from year to year. In 2013, revenue from apps mobile devices in Indonesia reached $62,1 million. Meanwhile, in 2015 it soared to reach $118,2 million. It is estimated that this year it will reach $142,1 million and in 2018 it will reach $197,6 million.

Talking about developer income, Baidu in his research also explained that until now, revenue from applications mobile devices Mobile Advertising contributed the most, followed by Paid-Apps Purchase and In-Apps Purchase.

Baidu Indonesia Managing Director Bao Jianlei said, although currently In-Apps purchases still make the lowest contribution, in the future it is estimated that the contribution from In-Apps Purchases will exceed the contribution from Paid-Apps Purchases.

"In 2015, revenue from Mobile Advertising from 5 regions, namely Jakarta, Bodetabek, Bandung, Surabaya and Semarang reached USD15 million (71%), outperforming the contribution contributed by Paid Apps Purchase which was around $3,2 million (15%) and Apps Purchase is about $2,9 million (13%). This year, revenue from Mobile Advertising from the same region is expected to reach $20,8 million," Jianlei said.

Characteristics of using mobile applications in Indonesia

GAMES (38%), instant messaging (27%) and social media (19%) are listed as apps mobile devices most frequently downloaded by mobile device users in Indonesia. But uniquely, those applications are also the ones that are most often deleted again by them – games (50%), instant messaging (29%) and social media (16%).

Other applications favored by Indonesians are applications for online shopping (8%), transportation (6%), books and various references (6%), maps and navigation (3%), and news and information (3%). . Meanwhile, other applications that are often deleted are online shopping applications (10%) and transportation applications (3%).

The reasons Indonesians download applications are very diverse. They download a lot of games because they are fun and entertaining. As for social media applications, online shopping and transportation they download because of considerations of functions, benefits and recommendations from other parties.

More than half of the respondents (58%) said they must have downloaded an application every month. This number is far more than the number of device users mobile devices who likes to delete the applications they have downloaded every month (16%).

Some device users mobile devices those who decide to delete an application they have previously downloaded are usually due to the application they rarely use (42%), insufficient memory (36%) or boredom with the application (27%).

Another reason that emerged was because the application could not function properly (15%), users preferred other applications (13%), similar to other applications (9%), did not meet the needs of children (4%), and applications that they wanted to use. downloaded too expensive (3%).
