Minister of Communication and Information Encourages Google and Facebook to Open Data Centers in Indonesia

Minister of Communications and Informatics Johnny G. Plate again encourages Google and Facebook to build data centers (data center) in Indonesia. According to him, the company also has plans to realize this.

"Google and Facebook already have plans to build a data center in Indonesia," explained Johnny.

However, so far there is no detailed information about when and where the data center will be built. The data center development plan is also still dependent on the Personal Data Protection Act.

"There are two problems, where data center and flow the data. Free flow of data both domestically and across national borders, there needs to be a protocol and it is reciprocal. There is no standard at the UN yet, this must be discussed together," kata Johnny.

He also explained that every country has a GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation), for Indonesia it is currently being processed at the DPR and is expected to be released in 2020.

According to him, the presence of an integrated data center in Indonesia will improve the ease of communication and integration from the central and local governments, both provincial, district and city governments to related agencies.

"In local governments, both provincial and district and city, between the offices can move well and quickly, so that the implementation of good governance e-governance can walk well," explained Johnny quoted from the official Kominfo website.

So far, there has been no official confirmation from Google and Facebook regarding plans to build a data center in Indonesia. It's just that Google last November said it would build cloud regions in Indonesia, precisely in Jakarta.

Unlike the data center, cloud regions is a availability zone which can minimize latency and improve service performance in an area.
