KodeKiddo Presents Coding Learning Program for Children

Has an intensive teaching program and curriculum for elementary and junior high school students

The problem of lack of talent is currently still a challenge that is often encountered by startups and technology companies, not only in Indonesia but also globally. The low number of qualified graduates from programming and technology majors is a persistent problem. One of the reasons why talent for engineer positions is still minimal is the lack of interest and education related to programming or programming coding from an early age.

Learning program coding choice for children

Seeing the problem, CodeKiddo then founded by two brothers, namely Meilani Hendrawidjaja and Benny Haryanto in October 2016. KodeKiddo is a place to learn coding which is interactive and interesting for children.

KodeKiddo offers afterschool enrichment courses and activities for school holidays using technology and methodologies developed especially for children. KodeKiddo's way of teaching focuses on the development of each child while following a curriculum that balances technical and social skills.

KodeKiddo curriculum supports math concepts and computational thinking. KodeKiddo has a mission to provide opportunities and access for Indonesian children to learn coding and concept computer science with high-quality learning materials and resources, using cloud-based platforms supported by interactions in the classroom. Apart from Jakarta and Bandung, Kodekiddo is also located in Palo Alto, United States of America.

“This 2017 KodeKiddo has a target to expand its operational area to other cities in Indonesia, so that lessons can be learned from coding easier to access for children from all walks of life,” said KodeKiddo Co-founder Meilani Hendrawidjaja to DailySocial.

Currently KodeKiddo has more than 150 students in 4 existing branches. For the choice of classes and lessons, KodeKiddo has two program options for children aged 7-11 years and 11 years and over. Among others are Coding for SD and Coding for Middle School. The choice of study time is also available twice a week for 90 minutes. The fees charged to students start from IDR 350 thousand to IDR 1 million per month.

"In addition to routine programs, Kodekiddo also often holds various campaigns aimed at educating children and parents about the benefits of learning. coding through activities and competitions such as KiddoHack and Hour of Code,” said Meilani.

Event hackathon for the first child in Jakarta

For the first time, KodeKiddo will hold a KiddoHack event in Jakarta. The event, which was attended by KodeKiddo students and the general public, was one of the activities launched by KodeKiddo, as a platform for education as well as introducing KodeKiddo to the public.

Inspired by activities hackathon, KiddoHack which is a mini hackathon within 5 hours, intended for children aged 9-15 years. In this event, children will form teams and learn to work together to think up ideas, make designs, and program with Scratch platform software. After the project is complete, the child will present the results to the judges/mentors. Children will also work on some questions related to the concept of computational thinking and Programming.

The judges and mentors come from the startup, technology, and education worlds in Indonesia. They will interact with children to give input, share experiences, and rate their work in KiddoHack. The KiddoHack event will take place tomorrow (04/07) at Senayan City Jakarta, starting at 12 o'clock until the end.

"For this KiddoHack activity, we limit the number of participants to 30 children with a registration fee of IDR 100 thousand for 5 hours of the event. We also give attractive prizes for the team that managed to become the winner at the end of the event, said Meilani.

With the presence of KodeKiddo and positive activities hackathon for children, it is hoped that more children will be interested in learning coding, with selected systems and teaching from KodeKiddo.
