Jack Ma Officially Becomes Indonesian E-Commerce Advisor

Delivered during a visit by a government group at Alibaba Group's headquarters in Hangzhou, China

Alibaba Group founder and Executive Chairman Jack Ma has officially accepted the role offered by the Indonesian government as advisor steering committee e-commerce. This was conveyed during the visit of Coordinating Minister for the Economy Darmin Nasution and Minister of Communication and Information Rudiantara at Alibaba Group's headquarters in Hangzhou, China.

Previously in September 2016 President Joko Widodo had offered the role when he visited the Alibaba Group headquarters. However, there was news that This "deal" failed, after Jack Ma also accepted a similar role for the Malaysian government.

Today, the Indonesian government confirmed that Jack Ma actually accepted the role. To the government, Ma revealed that as an archipelagic country he sees logistics and information infrastructure as a fundamental issue that must be resolved. Alibaba Group invited the government to visit its headquarters to share experiences and knowledge.

Five days ago, Tokopedia's C2C service just announced the acquisition of a total of 14 trillion Rupiah led by Alibaba Group, although the Chinese giant is said to have only a minority stake. Previously, at the Southeast Asian level, Alibaba Group had also acquired Lazada's B2C service.
