Launched the latest features in Dompetku, the Cipika service pivot, and funding through Ideabox Ventures

The year 2016 is crucial year for Indosat Ooredoo to build platforms, develop systems and deliver digital services. Its realization includes Dompetku innovations, Cipika product sales services to quality startups graduates from the Ideabox accelerator program.

In 2017, Indosat Ooredoo's digital services will begin to enter the scale-up. Partnerships that have been forged with various partners will be expanded, both domestically and internationally. DailySocial had the opportunity to talk directly with Indosat Ooredoo's Group Head Digital Strategy & Investments Usman Khan Lodhi about his plans for next year.

The rise of -based business models "telco and bank agnostic"

Mid-2016 Indosat Ooredoo only provided special services and payments to Indosat Ooredoo users. Seeing the huge opportunities that exist for the platform it has, around October 2016 the -based business model telco and bank agnostic later developed by Indosat Ooredoo. For Indosat Ooredoo itself, this strategy is deliberately presented to provide opportunities for all Indonesian people to enjoy digital services available at Indosat Ooredoo.

"We are carrying out this strategy in accordance with The roadmap from Indosat Ooredoo. In the end, Indosat Ooredoo doesn't want to set a limit by only specifying Indosat Ooredoo operator users who can enjoy digital services, but also all users. We believe that we have built an ecosystem, providing services that will ultimately make users happier," said Usman.

When asked about the development of Dompetku in the first quarter to the fourth quarter of 2016, Usman emphasized that Dompetku has experienced a significant increase. Dompetku has launched many programs ranging from branchless banking, Dompetku Nusantara, as well as launching partnerships with various related companies, including local and foreign banks.

In 2017, Dompetku will enter the stage scale up, both in terms of platforms, customer acquisition processes, and transactions.

"Dompetku is one of the e-money services that experienced a fairly large transaction volume throughout 2016. We are at the forefront and we want to provide more services by focusing on services that are relevant to users," said Usman.

According to Usman, in the first quarter of 2017 Dompetku will launch several new innovations that will provide users with more choice and convenience. On the other hand, Indosat Ooredoo also wants to encourage users to make more use of the application.

Since the beginning, Dompetku has been mostly used by users via SMS and USSD, then Indosat Ooredoo wants to invite everyone to take advantage of the mobile application.

One way to do this is to establish more partnerships with various financial institutions, banks and other related companies that make it easier for users to make payments, bills, loans and others.

"Currently we have formed the ecosystem and the next step is to enlarge the service and acquire more users to use the application," said Usman.

Cipika online shop

Currently Cipika online store has become a sales platform that focuses on gadgets, electronics and various Indosat Ooredoo products. In 2017 a curation process for products will be carried out to ensure Cipika has a special product.

"Now we have evolved with the platform and focused on wholesale transactions and try to take advantage of customer base. [Cipika will] do a little pivoting in terms of providing more profitable offers in terms of finance," said Usman.

Previously, Indosat Ooredoo tried to sell food products in Cipika. In the future, they will only focus on three categories that are considered more appropriate and certainly relevant for Cipika consumers.

"Cipika 2016 was a busy year in terms of building platforms, integration and others. Now everything is finished and in 2017 we will present new services," said Usman.

Fourth batch of Ideabox and Ideabox Ventures

Since its initial launch, Indosat Ooredoo has wanted to present an opportunity that is different from other accelerator programs in Indonesia. One way to do this is by collaborating with Kejora and Mountain Partners. The accelerator program, which has entered its fourth batch, is claimed to be one of the programs that is presented specifically for startups that want to launch products, supported by more opportunities from Indosat Ooredoo.

"It's not just a chance to get funding and quality teaching classes, by participating in the Ideabox Alpha accelerator program, lucky participants can also get the opportunity to promote products and take advantage of the opportunity to acquire users through 85 million Indosat Ooredoo users throughout Indonesia," said Usman.

Currently Ideabox Alpha has become one of the startup's preferred accelerator programs and has spawned several startups that have the potential to develop, including Pawoon and Karental.

In 2017 through Ideabox VenturesIn the future, the best startups will have the opportunity to get further funding after the initial stage. This is done by Ideabox Ventures to bridge startups that are having trouble getting money funding at a later stage.

"We focus on startups that fall into the fintech category, cyber security, telecommunications, e-commerce services and service economy related. Thus, startups that fall into this category have the opportunity to develop products with a focus on the specified category," said Usman.

Asked about the prediction of technology startup trends that will become a trend in 2017, Usman said that Financial Technology (Fintech) services are still a favorite service and have bright potential. Other services that are also predicted to be more developed are logistics services, cyber security, and management big data.
