AYO Indonesia Receives New Funding Round Led by Alpha Momentum

Former badminton player Greysia Polii has also invested in this sports community platform

Sports community platform AYO Indonesia announced the acquisition of new funding led by Alpha Momentum Indonesia. The value is kept secret, but this second round was also injected by the former Greysia Polii badminton player, Reinaldo Tendean (CEO my fin), Leo Lee (CEO of Heonz Corp), and Joseph Prabantara (Co-Founder of getRedy.id).

Contacted by DailySocial.id, AYO Indonesia Co-Founder and CEO Samuel Hadeli Lie revealed that he would increase the number of teams to accelerate acquisitions and add sports facilities partners with the acquisition of this new investment.

AYO was founded by Samuel Hadeli Lie (CEO), Agustian Hermanto (CPO), and Johannes (COO). Previously, AYO accepted pre-start funding from Alpha Momentum in 2020 which is used for team development and mobile applications. In the 2016-2019 period, AYO operates with its own capital or bootstrap.

Former badminton player Greysia Polii is one of the strategic investors in AYO Indonesia

For information, AYO Indonesia is a sports community platform that offers services and features online end-to-end. Users can order sports fields or facilities online, no longer needing to call or send messages to ensure the availability of places. AYO said that as many as 9.600 sports communities have used its platform.

In addition to renting sports venues on a regular basis on-demand, users can also search for opponents sparring or friends playing through the website or application. For owners of sports facilities, they can also connect with potential users or the community.

The AYO application is designed to be able to manage sports activities while connecting with various sports communities. This application has dashboards which displays profiles of football teams, match schedules, to competitions.

Some of the features offered to users are "Play Together" where users can hold matches/competitions, "Sparring" to find opponents or join available matches, and "Tournaments" for EO to hold sports tournaments through AYO.

business model

Samuel continued, currently AYO has two business models to generate income. The first source is online booking transactions for sports venues, also combined with based transactions commission and subscription model (subscription) with partner landlords.

"The second source of income is through sponsorship for sports activities held by AYO. We are exploring other revenue sources at the moment," said Samuel.

He said, this business model is in line with efforts to identify problems that are often experienced by the sports community. For example, field leases are still done manually. The community is considered to have difficulty finding availability of places because they have to contact them one by one.

"We built a system online booking sports facilities which are the cornerstone of our main business model. Owner venue can manage and track the performance of his place more easily. They can also connect to the AYO community," he explained.

In the initial development of the system online booking, AYO just focused on soccer and futsal. This year, his party is expanding into badminton and basketball. "This is why Greysia Polii is our strategic partner," he added.

Based on survey of Indonesian Political Indicators in the period 30 October-5 November 2022, football/futsal is the favorite sport of 21% of respondents in Indonesia, followed by jogging/ casual walks (17,5%), badminton (10%), and volleyball (9,8%).
