Amazon Team Meets President, Promises Investment of 14 Trillion Rupiah

Invest in the next 10 years, starting with cloud services through AWS

Amazon is getting serious about entering the Indonesian market. Amazon CTO and VP Werner Vogels met with President Joko Widodo and promised an investment in the next 10 years with a value of $1 billion (more than 14 trillion Rupiah). Sector cloud, via Amazon Web Service (AWS), was the first target. There is no further information whether the e-commerce service will also be present.

When receiving the Amazon representative, the President was accompanied by Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani and Head of BKPM Tom Lembong. Previously, Amazon had discuss the tax side with Sri Mulyani.

Sri Mulyani, like quoted from Viva, said, "They delivered a [promise of] investing Rp14 trillion in Indonesia within the next 10 years. cloud services what they do."

Vogels came to Indonesia in order to AWS Startup Day 2018 in Jakarta. On the sidelines of the event, Vogels stated that he has no plans to build local servers in Indonesia and will increase education related to cloud technology with the AWS Academy initiative. AWS itself has set up offices and recruited local teams since last December 2017.
