Panasonic Showcases Airplane Seats Armed with Wireless Charger and 4K Screen

Rated as a combination of office space, living room and bedroom in one cubicle on an airplane

The airplane cabin we've known for so long has always felt uncomfortable – well, unless you are lucky to get a seat on a first class flight. This is quite reasonable considering that airplanes are designed to accommodate as many passengers as possible in order to cover huge operational costs.

In business class, you may be able to get a more comfortable seat. But this still can't guarantee you will stay productive while in the air. Not so according to Panasonic. Through its aviation division, Panasonic Avionics, they introduced their latest innovations for aircraft cabins, or more specifically, business class flight seats.

This special seat they call the Waterfront. Developed with B/E Aerospace, Teague Design Consultancy and Formation Design Group, the Waterfront is more than just an airplane seat. It is a combination of office space, living room and bedroom in one room on the plane.

The seat itself can be shifted in position, depending on whether you want to close your eyes or stay productive while in the air. You also don't have to worry gadgets-gadgets that you carry will run out of battery. The reason is, Waterfront is equipped with a series of port USB as well as a small table next door that functions as a wireless charger.

Right in front of your eyes, a 24-inch 4K resolution screen is embedded as an entertainment center. Users can also adjust the temperature and lighting around them, don't forget to close the bulkhead on the sides for better privacy. All this can be controlled via the device mobile devicesvia Bluetooth 4.0 and NFC, or via tablets provided.

This Panasonic Waterfront aircraft seat was actually exhibited at event CES 2016 last January. Until now there is no information about which airlines are interested in adopting Waterfront for its business class. Regardless, I'd be willing to pay more to get a seat in business class if it were as advanced as the Waterfront.
