Zomato Adds Theme-Based Collection to Restaurant Search Service

Restaurant search service Zomato added theme-based collections in its search page. Referred to as Collections (or Collections in their international version), the Collections feature groups popular restaurants into specific themes and trends based on user activity and interests. Examples of collections that now appear on Zomato's search page are Healthy Eating, Indonesian Specialties, or Economical Eating.

According to Zomato Founder and CEO Deepinder Goyal in a press release, "By adding a new social layer to the restaurant search industry, we wanted to take this further and provide information that a Foodie might not necessarily be looking for. With Collections, we're turning restaurant searches into small lists that are easy to find. contains restaurant information of particular interest or theme. Another addition through the search engine aspect, the Collection provides a new perspective on the search side. Followed by an update to the interface (user interface) makes finding restaurants easier."

The theme information developed by Zomato is directly implemented on its desktop and mobile applications, with a specific theme in each city. According to Zomato Indonesia Country Manager William Tunggaldjaja, "Information in the Collection segment will beUpdate automatically because we have a complete user database. We can provide the most accurate popular restaurant information."

According to our observations, each collection has at least 10 restaurant information and even some Collections have up to 20-30 restaurants. Each Collection can also be shared via social media services or email to inform our friends.

William confirmed that currently consumers cannot create their own collections. However, Zomato will continue to provide Collections that follow trends and special events, for example for Ramadan or the World Cup. They believe that what is presented by the Zomato Collection is in line with consumer expectations. Willam revealed, "We actually use big data to provide the information consumers want."

According to April data, Zomato Indonesia already has a database of more than 18.500 restaurants for the area around Jakarta and is claimed to cover about 94% of the total places to eat in the Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi areas, with updates every two months.
